I Never Knew

by Icedshardz

Summary

AU Lily Evans was a decent girl who was supposed to recieve education at Hogwarts--had her terrified parents not hid it from her and sent them a return letter, strictly stating that she was not to attend. She thus lived her life as a Muggle, never knowing anything about Wizardry--until one day, due to blackmail, she was forced to enter a strange, tattered, broken up place called the Leaky Cauldron--a place where, should one enter, supposedly was never to return.

In a belief that she was a Muggle, they triggered a special trick that would stop the Muggle from discovering the magical world. However, upon realizing the truth, they attempted to stop it--but unfortunately, it only made the spell worse, forcing her to depart into the medieval world, where magic was strictly forbidden.

There, Lily is a peasant of a family with no worthy name, who stumbles across James Potter--a knight of the castle, with a secret himself.

He's secretly a wizard.

Author's Note

I'm working on this story as well as another story, called Never. But Never won't be published until this story is completed, or almost so completed. Or if I change my mind. XD But anyways, this, I think, will be an interesting story, hopefully unlike anything you've read before. This, I think, isn't like the other time-traveling stories; two people don't experience an accident and get transported together. It might get confusing later on, but that's nothing bad. Hope you enjoy!

Please Read and Review. I'm hoping for at least ten reviews this chapter. XD

Prologue

Accidental Accidents

Lily Evans turned around, eyeing the boy of eighteen with a certain look of absolute hatred, piercing him with her emerald green eyes. Brushing her red hair out of her eyes, she shot out at him, "You wouldn't dare." Her voice was sharp as her hands began to automatically clench to handle the stress she was put under at the moment.

The boy sneered back, a triumphant smirk crossing his face. He tossed his head conceitedly before saying, "Oh, I would. Now, if I were to tell the teachers the reason as to why poor Billy Mayers was found hanging from the ceiling by his toe..."

Lily glared at him even harder, if that were possible. She wasn't quite sure what had happened. She had merely wished ill--in her own mind, of course--on Billy, the pompous boy a year older than her who kept following her around as a stalker. He hadn't done anything so drastic, yet--and he hadn't exactly invaded her personal privacy, but he bothered her immensely. By his words and his actions. And if the word got to the school, she shuddered in fear of what would happen to her.

Swallowing her anger, she managed to choke out a strained statement, saying, "What do I have to do... to stop you from telling?"

The boy's eyes widened, having not suspected that she would have said that. However, as the dawning possibilities began to stretch to the horizon and back, he began smiling in a mischivious way that made Lily uncomfortable, fidgeting, her heart pounding. "I want you to go into the Leaky Cauldron," he stated promptly.

Lily's head shot up, fear flickering in her eyes. Though she was considered to be "too old" for ghost stories--at a strong age of fifteen now, and in her junior year--it was fact that the Leaky Cauldron--that tattered, old, almost fallen down building--was haunted. Only eight months ago did a twenty year old, on a dare, enter the Leaky Cauldron, coming out, not recalling his name, family, or anything that had ever happened. That was not the worse case though. Some had pernamently disappeared, vanishing off the ends of the earth.

"But--" Lily stuttered, unable to form complete words, staring at the boy in shock. "The--the Leaky Cauldron--you don't mean--how--?"

The smirk only grew wider as the boy nodded his head, crossing his arms, nodding across the street where the broken building stood. "Go ahead," he said, grinning, taunting her. "Or do you want the world to know about poor Billy Mayers?"

"You don't even like him anyways," she spat at him as she stared at the building across the street. She knew she had to do it. Her parents absolutely hated it when strange things happened like what had happened to Billy, and she couldn't let them find out about it. They always somehow traced it back to her, even though she had no idea what in the world had happened. It was always like magic. Things somehow just occured in her favor. Pity that magic didn't exist.

With that thought, she crossed the street warily, looking left and right, standing still before the building. The boy had followed her so far, leaning against a sign pole that read, "No Parking." Lily bit her lip and glared at him defiantly. "You're cruel," she said bitterly.

"So I've been told," the boy responded, his smirk only growing.

Lily shot him one last glare and wished upon him a death wish before promptly opening the creaky doors and walking in.

Now, as you and I both know, as more intellegent people, that the Leaky Cauldron is not cursed, but, along the same lines, what it is is that it is run by magical folk. When a wandering Muggle entered, they often performed some complex magic--or a simple Memory Charm--to ensure that their secret remained a secret. When Lily entered, they began the same ordeal, already in the middle of firing the spell when they realized that she was a witch.

It was quite obvious that that redheaded girl wasn't aware of Wizardry, judging by her confused face, but she was a witch all the same. They attempted to undo the spell, but it only made things worse. She spun around and saw a jet of red, sparkling light darting toward her, and she disappeared off the face of the Earth as they knew it.

Sorry. I know it's real, real short, but I've already got the next chapter written up and I can promise you, it is loads longer than this.

But hope you enjoyed this prologue. Once again, please review! I'd never done anything like this before, and it would be awesome to know that people like it. :D
