Disclaimer: I don't own anything, unfortunately. Title, inspiration and lyrics come from song Tidal Wave by The Killers.
Pairing(s): Underlying Jacket, Jate and Skate but Suliet wins out.
A/N: This is my second go at writing a Suliet fic and I'm desperately working to keep Juliet and James in character. I'd love some reviews to let me know if I'm nearly accomplishing it. You can even tell me if you hate it, because it gives me something to work on. Concrit is my paradise, by the way.
This is a short little one; just a random idea that came to me earlier while listening to the song.

You say your heart ain't ever been broken
You think you know where you're going…
She wasn't sure what she had expected from him. Maybe friendship, hooking up… love, even?
Juliet shook the thought out of her head. That wasn't going to happen. He had his eye on another; didn't notice how Juliet had studied his features, noticed his dimples when he smiled.
She would have cut off her right arm to be allowed to leave the island and see her sister and nephew, but he made life on the island just about bearable. When the rest of them wanted her out, he stuck up for her, gave her protection. Mere kindness, she now realised.
And as she sat on that beach, the rum bottle placed gently balanced gently against her leg, she knew that was it. The boat was gone, the helicopter was gone…Jack was gone.

Tidal wave
Tidal wave come rushing over me…
The water crashed unceremoniously over James' head as he plunged under, having fallen from a significant distance. He fought his way to the surface and took in all the air he could fill his lungs with. Looking up, he saw the helicopter carry on without him.
He could still taste her; the water had not removed the feeling of her lips against his as he prepared to say goodbye. Despite the passion and lust he could feel in her response to his kiss, he knew there was no love there. And he saw the look in Jack's face.
In his own way, Sawyer loved Kate. But even he could admit that Jack's love for her was purer.
As he bobbed in the water, the final realisation of what he had done struck him. A tidal wave of emotions seemed to try to push him under the water again, but he kicked his legs and pushed himself back towards shore.
Whatever had had with Kate was over.

Juliet sat silently, taking another swig from the rum bottle. She watched the waves wash over themselves until the monotony started to give her a headache. When that happened, she remedied it with another swig of rum.
She noticed something out in the sea, but didn't pay attention. Probably just the rum seeing things.
When James Ford washed up on shore, she was surprised but didn't show it. He said a few words in sarcastic greeting, before displaying his trademark cocky grin.
Juliet watched; he had nice dimples too…

A/N: I know it's short but that's the point of this one. Please leave any feedback because it's greatly appreciated. Anything for me to work on is fantastic!
