This is not logical.

His arrangement with the Captain and Uhura provides him with a full range of sexual satisfaction. So why does he find himself drawn to a man who seems to find Spock as inherently distasteful as his tormentors back on Vulcan had?

Has he become a romantic or a masochist? He honestly can't say, but necessity demands action before he can safely report for duty without creating a spectacle on the bridge.
