Blood. All he could see was blood. The bodies of his team ripped apart in front of him. Every last one of them, dead. Because of him. His eyes shot open with a gasp. It took him a moment to remember where he was. He was home. He was in his own bed at home. He took a few deep breaths, trying to calm his pounding heart. He looked to the side and saw his wife, _, sleeping peacefully beside him. He turned his whole body to face her, and just stared at her, the light from the mood outside illuminating her face perfectly. Why couldn't he stop having these nightmares? That was so long ago. They'd eradicated the titans from the earth a little over a year ago. The world had been at peace for a long time. But he was still plagued with these nightmares every so often. He gently reached a hand out to brush some hair away from his wife's face. "Levi?" she whispered, opening her eyes slightly. "Go back to sleep." "Why are you awake?" she asked softly. He didn't respond, he just reached for one of her hands, intertwining their fingers. "Nightmare?" she asked "It's fine." "It's not fine if it's keeping you awake. You gotta rest, Levi." "Relax." "I could say the same to you." "I didn't mean to wake you up." "Stop being stupid." "Look, it's just a bad memory. That memory is never going to go away. It's just something I have to deal with. All I need is to know that you'll be here when I wake up. And you always are." She put her arms around him, pulling him into her. He put his arms around her, too, and rested his head against her chest. She pulled the covers up over him and he snuggled himself into her closer. She ran her fingers through his hair gently, which always helped sooth his nerves. In the silence of their room, he could hear her heart beating softly behind his warm, soft pillow for the rest of the evening. She could hear his breathing become slow and knew he was falling back to sleep. "I love you, Levi." "Hm." He hummed contentedly in reply.
