Kayn Shieda
Kayn Shieda is a 17-year-old student at the Academy of Legends. He's currently top of his class but stays silent and isolated because of his severe bipolar disorder. Kayn stands at 5'11. He wears a bisexual pride flag on his left hoodie sleeve.
Kayn had an abusive father for the first 7 years of his life, leaving him with burn marks on his eyes, scars on his arms, legs, and back, and a paralyzed left arm. Kayn wears his left arm in a red sling for mobility purposes and was put up for adoption at age 7. His father hated him because Kayn was rowdy and showed violent tendencies. He was quickly taken in by an Ionian man by the name of Zed. He changed his last name and grew to love his adoptive father. However, when he hit puberty, Kayn began to want to outdo his father. Kayn works hard to become greater than his adoptive father and also be a better person than his biological father.
Kayn's mood varies greatly, and he spends a great deal of time controlling his manic and violent thoughts during the day. He sees a therapist but does not take any medication. Kayn's manic and violent moods are rarely seen but commonly felt. When they do surface, Kayn becomes cynical, cocky, and aggressive. His depressive moods usually aren't noticeable, because they match his general low energy moods. However, he gets aggressive when he's depressed as well and very rude. He looks down on others because they weren't dealt the same hand as he was. Kayn's general attitude is to not worry about others, and others shouldn't worry about him. He wants to be nice, but his lack of medication makes it extremely difficult to control his mood swings and violent urges.
Kayn finds solace in simpler things and prefers to be alone. Farming simulators like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley are his favorite pastime, and he also enjoys collecting knives and listening to lo-fi music. The characters in farming games let him have a social life without having to get anxious about what they think of him. People are generally off-put by the burns on his face, as well as his aloof attitude. Deep down, Kayn is lonely and just doesn't know how to connect with others without being scared that they might hurt him.
