Jake fiddled with the hem of his shirt, nearly ripping it a few times in his nervousness. He couldn't stop his heart from pounding in his chest. This was the day. This was the day Dirk finally got back from the war. He bounced on his balls of his feet, every muscle in his body tense anxious. It had been almost a full year of little to no contact besides the occasional letter and video chat. The last letter he got from Dirk was a month ago, telling him that he would be back by the end of the month. Seeing those words in his love's handwriting made him burst into tears almost instantly. Now here he was, surprising Dirk at the airport with Dirk's favorite outfit of his, a few flowers, and a warm smile.
Dirk had just gotten through the doors, glancing around as he threw on his old pair of sunglasses. Jake's breath halted and he broke into a big grin, immediately running towards his now tanned boyfriend. There were no words between the two of them, Jake ran and jumped at Dirk as the other instantly scooped him up in a tight hug, any attempts to hide a smile were thrown out the window. Dirk held him as if his life depended on it, light chuckles escaping the pair while they became reacquainted with each other once again. Jake was the one to finally lean back, looking his boyfriend up and down with a watery smile.
"You've certainly got a new look to you." He laughed, sniffling ever so slightly as he rubbed his eye with the heel of his palm. Dirk only chuckled and nodded, swooping in close to catch Jake in a warm and loving kiss. As they pulled apart Dirk rested his forehead on Jake's, his voice softer but still just what Jake remembered it to be.
"Told you I'd be back. Nothing stops a Strider." Jake rolled his eyes and gave Dirk a playful smack on the arm, knocking their noses together in an unrestrained show of affection.
"Indeed. And now I know you will give me a run for my money in a bout of fisticuffs." Jake teased, simply unable to keep himself to touching Dirk. He needed to know that he was there, that he was actually there and not the wild fantasies he has had since the day the Strider had left. Another kiss to his lips and that was all the proof he needed, his hands roaming the blonde's face and hair as he tried to memorize every piece of Dirk that he could. This was absolutely the best day of his life. And he wouldn't change it for the world.
