Yasusada and Kashuu are Okita's swords I CANT HELP IT I HAVE PHYSICAL PAIN AT THE MERE MENTION OF OKITA!
Sometimes, when Yamato thinks Kashuu isn't looking, he'll watch.
And he knows perfectly that most of the time Kashuu doesn't notice him, being busy with Okita-kun or presenting himself as pretty as possible (Yamato scolds at that because really,you're a sword and you're born to fight.). And it keeps going like that even more after Ikeyada, Yamato watches and Kashuu doesn't see. His eyes are on the other, feeling every move, the frustrated face and the clenched fist whenever Kashuu's body doesn't obey his head. Maybe there is a little satisfaction, but Yamato feels a pang of disappointment when Kashuu drops the training sword, and jealousy because Okita-kun still cherishes him. Yamato watches and watches as everyday Kashuu wakes up earlier than every one, throwing himself at training all over again.
Why don't you just give up, Yamato wants to ask, you're now as good as any damaged swords.
And Kashuu seems to reply to his silent question by asking Okita-kun when he can battle again, and every time Okita-kun shakes his head, Kashuu's shoulder plumps before straightening himself up and training again.
Just like that, Yamato is reminded of the reason why he watches Kashuu, why his eyes always wander to him and he keeps waiting. (really, honestly waits like he had always been waiting for Okita-kun to appear.) He waits until the day Kashuu falls and is unable to stand up.
He'll wait, until the day he feels Kashuu's eyes on him, and he'll laugh, because Yamato will always realise.
