The vision wavered in front of him, it's black hair and cruel smile all too familiar. Naruto shook, staring at it. A tall man, with a purple rope around his waist, eyes red with Sharingan. All Naruto could do was stare, he couldn't look away. He couldn't draw his eyes from the torture of his nightmares, and worse, of his best dreams. There was no looking away, no looking for a glint of the old Sasuke, all there was, was Naruto staring at him, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.

Sasuke glared at him from a few feet away, striking fear into him, along with loathing, and an emotion he didn't want to feel. He felt the lingering love for Sasuke, for the first person he'd ever cared so much for. For the first person to betray him like that. Although Naruto had been betrayed before, Sasuke's betrayal was the only one that mattered. The one that had hurt the worst.

Naruto's heart ached, pounding quickly, and he stared at the vision. For a moment, that cruel smile flickered, it was still a smirking, Sasuke smile, but suddenly, there was pain behind the eyes. It reflected the pain behind Naruto's own eyes, and it sent another pang into him. Naruto ran forward towards Sasuke.

However quickly he ran, as he pumped his legs so hard that they ached, Naruto found himself moving no closer to Sasuke. It was as if he was dreaming, a terrible dream. He was running, but he wasn't, he was glues to the floor, perhaps by emotion, perhaps by jutsu, or perhaps he wasn't running at all. Tears broke from his eyes, and he cried out.

"Sasuke! Please!" Naruto did not know what he was begging for, but whatever it was he wanted it so badly, he thought he would burst.

No response came from Sasuke, the smirk just remained on his face, and then his eyes grew cruel again. Sasuke was mocking him, laughing, a deep, resounding laugh. It echoed in Naruto's ears, in his head, and he couldn't escape it. It was everywhere, torturing him. It shook him, making his muscles ache. And still he ran towards it's source. His sadness becoming pain, his pain becoming anger, and his anger growing, he ran.

Naruto's anger grew as he forced his sorrow to the back of his mind. His hands clenched and unclenched at his sides, his nails dug bloody semi-circles into his hands. Suddenly his hand flew to his kunie pouch, withdrawing one. He flung it at the vision, and without so much as a puff of smoke, or a single sound, it vanished. Leaving Naruto to collapse on his knees, sobbing piteously. Sasuke had left him again. Again, again, again. Or perhaps, he had only left him in his mind. Or… just maybe, he had never been there at all….
