Blue eyes stared across the table at green ones. Both women stared at each other, silent, waiting for the other to speak up. Two sets of red heads shined in the sunshine as sun shined down on them and the buildings around them. The blue eyed red head stared at the other, chewing her lip. They had been sitting outside at the restaurant for at least ten minutes. Neither one had spoken a thing except for ordering their food.

Pepper pursed her lips before she took a sip of her water. "So…" she said, elongating the word as she thought of what to say.

"So…" Natalie said, chewing her cheek as she stared back at the other red head woman.

"You're not Natalie Rushman," Pepper said, eyeing the other woman warily. "Clearly that's not your real name."

"Correct," Nat said, nodding her head.

"What's your real name then?"

Natalie stayed silent, chewing her lip. She sighed after a couple minutes. "It's Natasha Romanoff. I am only telling you this because after everything that just happened and seeing as you're the one who has to deal with Tony, not to mention one of the few to keep him in line, I trust you. To an extent," she added at the end. "I don't trust easily and it takes a while to gain that trust."

"And you're trusting me?" Pepper said, raising an eyebrow. "To an extent?" she added.

"To an extent," Natasha said with a smirk. "Plus it will be nice to have someone to talk with who isn't tied S.H.I.E.L.D. and all this superhero business as much as I am."

"Well I'm not completely out of the superhero business. I'm stuck with Tony," the first red head laughed. "But it'd be nice to have someone else who can keep Tony in line. He's a handful a lot of the time. And I mean a lot," she said, shaking her head.

Another few minutes passed with some casual conversation every now and then between the two women. Their orders were brought to them. Many questions flew around Pepper's mind as she kept talking with Natasha and glancing at the other red haired female.

"Natasha," Pepper said, placing her fork down. "How did you become a part of S.H.I.E.L.D.?"

The red haired spy shook her head as she took a bite from her salmon. "Sorry, I don't trust you enough to give you my full backstory."

The Stark Industries CEO nodded her head, sighing with a smile. "Fair enough."

"But you'll get there eventually," Nat said, a smile forming on her lips. "I promise on that."

"Well, I can't wait to gain that trust and get to know you more," Pepper said, smiling back at the female spy.

Thank you to the anon who sent this prompt. I am so sorry that it took so long to finally write. I'm also so so sorry it's short. I had major writer's block and I couldn't think of what else to write for this. I hope you liked it.
