They had always expected him to fall for Hermione, the first girl he ever openly cared for. Others voted for Ron, his first friend. After all it had been Ron he'd had to rescue during the Triwizard Tournament. The one person he would miss the most.

Following that that line of thought there were those who suggested Snape, who hid his beauty behind ugliness and his stormy emotions; his deep and all-encompassing love behind sneers and derision.
But they all forgot the one who rescued him from the Dursleys. The one who, before everyone else, was his friend. The one who gave him his first birthday cake and his first birthday present. The one he always looked up to.
They all forgot Hagrid.
