The jacket arrived one evening in the mail for Santana Lopez, addressed only by "Anonymous." The three roommates had gathered around the parcel to see what it was. Santana had quickly wiped a few tears away, as she hung it up in their apartment on the coat rack. She flopped down on the couch, as Kurt and Rachel sat down on either side of her. Kurt sighed. "I miss him," he said quietly. "I keep thinking I'm going to get an email or phone call from him, but it never comes. No more "I love you's" or the fact I am never going to get called "little brother" again."
Rachel laid her head down on Kurt's shoulder. "I miss him, too," she said. Santana nodded in agreement. It hadn't been easy for the three roomates, now two months after Finn's death. All had gone back to their school, and to their jobs, but everything felt like work-it was hard to find that joy, that spark, that being in New York had initially. Santana had introduced Dani to her friends, and Rachel was as happy as she could be working in musical theatre, but the loss was felt deeply by all. It wasn't something that they talked about, but it was something that bonded them together even more than before. Rachel squeezed Santana's hand as she stood up abruptly. "I'm going to bed," she announced.
"You okay?" Santana asked.
Rachel nodded unconvincingly. "See you in the morning."
Kurt yawned as well, as he gave Santana a quick kiss on the cheek. "Glad you got your jacket back. Take care of it, okay?" His eyes shone with a few tears as he went to his room.
Santana awoke a few hours later, hungry, and went to the kitchen. She heard sniffles coming from the dark living room, and turned on the light. Kurt was wearing Finn's jacket, crying as he curled up in it. Santana's heart broke for him. "What a different person I've become," she thought to herself as she joined Kurt on the couch. "Come here, Kurt," she said as he went into her embrace.
"It's so stupid," he managed to choke out. "It's been two months."
Santana closed her eyes. Two months felt like an eternity and at the same time, just like yesterday. She missed her friend, too.
"Carol sent me a text yesterday and called me Finn by mistake. I just.. I didn't know how to respond." Kurt said.
"Some days it's so easy to forget," Santana whispered. "And then, just suddenly, I remember, and it gets harder to breathe."
Kurt nodded. "I know the feeling. Blaine is trying so hard to understand, but he can't. He didn't know Finn as well as us. Finn was my brother. I loved him so much.. it's so hard to belieev that he's never coming back."
"Finn loved you too," Santana said. "I mean, he thought you were annoying a lot of the time-" This made Kurt laugh- "but," Santana continued, "he was very proud to be your brother."
Santana leaned into him and smelled Finn's jacket. She smiled. "It still smells like him. We had grown up so much last year, but I wish we had talked more. You just never think to yourself that conversations you have can be the last. It's so messed up."
"Sorry I stole your jacket," Kurt said, sitting up and wiping his eyes.
Santana smiled. "It's our jacket, Kurt. He was our quarterback. It's there whenever you need it."
Kurt smiled as well. "I'll go make us some warm milk."
