Hidden Warmth~

"An Indian summer," Craig supplied when, after stepping out his front door to greet the other boy, a look of confusion crossed Tweek's face. Warm and February were never part of the same sentence in South Park, let alone the same day.

Tweek nodded in response, accustomed to Craig's random knowledge. He just knewthings. Like how a blue moon was the second full moon in a month, or how babies don't have kneecaps, or the average number of spiders a person eats in their lifetime. All weird, yes, but it was part of Craig and Tweek was used to it.

Craig was leaning against a pillar on Tweek's porch. Nothing more than a royal blue t-shirt and a pair of worn, dark jeans covered his lanky body. And that hat. Couldn't forget the hat, even if it was nice out, yanked messily on top of pitch black hair. A droplet of melting snow rolled off the awning and landed on his shoulder. "C'mon," he stated and Tweek was hauled out and into a car.

They drove. Craig behind the wheel and Tweek sitting tensely in the passenger seat. "Where are we –ngh- going?" Tweek asked, not expecting an answer, but hopeful all the same.

The question went ignored, of course, Craig rolling down the old car's windows. He drove with one hand on the wheel and the other arm lazed out in the air. The dark haired boy's emotionless faced looked unremarkable, the same as usual. A tight lipped mouth and neutral eyebrows and, to any passerby, dead, gray eyes. But, Tweek was not a passerby. He knew Craig like the back of his shaky little hand and within those unique, light eyes, the blonde could see the tiniest hint of a smile. A little glimmer that said he was content in that moment.

The breeze was so close to warm against Tweek's skin. As if winter felt like playing a trick on them. As if summer was whispering, "Catch me if you can." The world smelt clean and fresh. Like a very early morning in spring. Tentatively, Tweek stretched a hand out the window, letting his fingers play with the wind, letting his hair be rustled.

He wasn't sure if he liked this tiny little taste of warmth. Because Tweek was certain it would be gone tomorrow, he would wake up to greet a below zero wind chill and 6 feet of snow. As they cleared the town limits of South Park, speeding past huge expenses of slowly melting snow, meeting long country roads that led nowhere for miles, one of Craig's arms steered while the other was slung across the back of Tweek's seat, softly tousling the crazy, blonde locks that smothered his head.

Sighing, Tweek pressed his head back against the other boy's hand. Calmness entered his body, caused by the nearly warm breeze and the fingers in his hair and Craig's almost smile. In that moment, during an Indian summer in February, in a beat up little car, Tweek Tweak was calm and Craig Tucker held a smile in his eyes.

No longer curious about whatever destination they were approaching, Tweek's fists unclenched and he tucked his legs beneath him on the seat, reaching to the radio dial. As the tension released from the small boy's body, a little smirk eased onto Craig's face, the closest he ever got to a smile. Regardless of what happened tomorrow, Tweek would never wish away that day, car ride, moment. If Tweek could find a smile in Craig's eyes, he could surely find an "I love you" in a smirk.
