Dean lay awake in his queen sized bed. It was meant for two, but two nights ago, after getting into a fight, Dean's husband, Castiel left without a word. He hadn't slept since then. He endlessly called him, trying to get a hold of him. The sound of thunder filled the house. Dean sat straight up when he heard crying from Haley's nursery. Ever since Cas had left, it seemed like she cried more and slept less. Dean wasn't very sure how he was going to deal without Cas, especially because he wasn't too confident in his parenting skills.
He peaked into the nursery, seeing his daughter, Haley, sitting straight up in her crib, tears streaking down her face. "Hey," he whispered as he scooped her into his arms. "What's wrong?" he asked softly, looking into her small eyes.
"I'm scared!" she sobbed. He held her tighter.
"Of the storm?" she nodded. "I'll stay with you til you fall back asleep, m'kay?" He kept her in his arms, one her small hands trying to wrap around his neck while her head lay on his shoulder.
"Daddy," she sighed.
"Yeah, sweetie?"
"Can you sing for me?"
"Carry on my wayward son,
There'll be peace when you are done,
Lay your weary head to rest,
Don't you cry no more."
He sang the words softly and quietly into his daughter's ear. On nights like this he liked to calm her down by singing to her, usually one of his liking. He continued singing until the second chorus, when he smiled to himself, noticing Haley's breathing had softened. He gingerly placed her back in her crib, laying a small blanket on her. He stood up, staring at his beautiful daughter. She was his. Theirs. His husband crept back into his thoughts. Dean sighed heavily, holding back a few tears threatening to fall from his eyes. He turned, jumping at the figure in the doorway.
The figure had on a tan, dirty trench coat. A white button up and a blue tie peaked out from behind it. The man's dark hair was wet from rain, and the bags under his eyes showed he, too, had not slept in a while.
"Cas," Dean whispered. His husband smiled at him. They embraced tightly, Dean's bare chest dripping from the excess water on Cas's clothes. A few tears escaped from both pairs of eyes. "Damn it," Dean sighed. "Never leave me again, 'kay?"
"Never."
