Bones looked across at Spock from his desk. Of course he blamed himself for causing his best friend's (yes, best friend) blindness. And, of course, Jim and Spock tried to prove to him and reassure him otherwise. But Bones nevertheless felt guilty, even though he knew what his best friends told him was 'd come to the conclusion that it may not be that he felt guilty about making Spock blind. It was the thoughts he was having because of Spock's sudden loss of sight; That Spock would never see a face again - he'd never get to see the love Bone felt for him, or the shyly affectionate gazes that the doctor sent his way. And that was if Bones ever got the courage to tell the Vulcan first officer how he felt! Suddenly, Bones heard the patter of boots stopping in the doorway and the soft thump of a hand resting on the wall. He turned around and was surprised to see Spock in the doorway of his office.
"Spock!" he exclaimed, jumping up from his chair and rushing over to Spock. "Are you alright?"
Without thinking or noticing, Bones touched his hand to the hand Spock had rested on the wall.
"I... assure you Doctor, I am... quite alright." the Vulcan replied, turning his head to where he had placed his hand, wondering vaguely what the tingling sensation he was feeling was.
Bones moved his hand to Spock's shoulder and guided him to the chair he'd been sitting in himself before Spock's sudden appearance. Spock sat and faced the desk for a moment, before turning to Bones and holding one of the doctor's shoulders for the illogical reason of being sure he was there. After a while, the darkness encompassing Spock's vision faded into the blurred outline of doctor McCoy. He blinked a couple of times, and his view cleared; his eyes now had a focus on Bones.
"Doctor McCoy?" Spock asked.
"Yeah, Spock?" Bones prompted.
Spock flexed the fingers that laid on the doctor's shoulder.
"I can... I can see you." he told him.
Bones grinned.
"That's great Spock!" he exclaimed.
Neither man moved. Spock flexed his fingers again. For an illogical reason, he pulled McCoy's head down to his level. No complaints. Emotionally, a typically unacceptable motive among Vulcans, Spock placed his lips on McCoy's. No complaints. Shyly, Bones laced his fingers with Spock's and returned the Vulcan's kiss. Irrational smiles spread across their faces. Spock tightened his grip on Bones' hand as he separated his lips from the doctor's. He relished the beauty of McCoy's affectionate, smiling face. The fact that he could have never seen that side of McCoy made Spock's heart sink.
"We should probably go to the bridge, tell Jim you're okay, y'know." Bones suggested, trying to move out of Spock's tight grip.
"Yes, of course." Spock agreed, letting go of his hand.
On their way to the bridge, Spock explained his theory as to why his blindness was only temporary. Before the turbolift opened, Bones turned to the Vulcan next to him.
"I'm just glad you're okay," he told Spock. "But don't tell Jim I said that! I'd never hear the end of it!"
Spock felt his lips twitch up in an almost smile.
A/N:
Thank you for reading!
This is the first thing I've ever written for Spones, so it may or may not be brilliant! I think I've gotten better, but I'd still like your constructive criticism on this, especially since it's the first time I've ever written slash! :)
