"Oh yes, Gellert Grindelwald and Dumbledore," said James with a laugh, "I've heard that story before."
"And people say their friendship crumbled when Dumbledore admitted his love to the other. So Grindelwald thought Dumbledore deserved punishment, for his betrayal." Whispered Sirius quietly to James.
"Betrayal? Having romantic feelings for his best mate? Really? Is that real or just another rumor your, well, brother told you?" said James, with a smirk this time.
"I mean, what if I told you I had a crush on you? That I've been in love with you for some time now? Wouldn't you think that that would be the start of the end of our friendship?" said Sirius.
"It will probably be," said James, "Yes, I see your point. Hey, it's already time for Herbology! Come on!"
Sirius remembers that day, and very clearly. The sun was setting, and he thought it was the perfect time to tell him. Especially after Remus had told him things would be better if James had known.
He will hate me, said Sirius for what seems like the hundredth time.
No, he wouldn't! You're his best mate! Remus would say.
Yeah, like Grindelwald was to Dumbledore, Sirius would say.
James is different, mate. I can feel it. And my feelings are always right. Remus would tell him.
Sirius wonders what would've happened had he told James. Would he still have married Lily? Would he hate him? Or, like in the wildest of his fantasies, would James tell him he felt the same way and live happily ever after?
Maybe James was different and Sirius was not paying enough attention to notice that. But there is always the bigger chance that he loved his best mate as a brother, a big part of his life, and as someone who always had his back.
A/N: If people like the idea here, I will write a story about the friendship of James and Sirius because personally, I really think Sirius was in love with James.
