A.N. I'll make this quick. Anyway I'm kinda crossing between the actual legend and the TV Show so Arthur is Modred's father. I wrote this in about 5 minutes but I thought I'd post it anyway. ENJOY!

A changed man

Two men fought on top of a hill, the noise was awful and the swords clanged. King Arthur held in his hand a sword that would be famous throughout history called Excalibur and his son Modred held a less famous sword called Clarinet. Knowing the spell cast on his fathers sword would stop him killing his father with magic Modred was forced to use brute force. Modred knew his father was a superior swordsmen but he was getting slow and weak. Modred knocked his fathers sword out of his hand and watched it fly across the field. Modred held his sword above Arthur and took delight in the pleading look in his eyes. Modred smiled, he plunged his sword into his fathers heart and watched the lights go out in his eyes. When Modred imagined this moment he thought this single act would bring him happiness all he felt was sadness. He heard someone come behind him and in one quick movement he pulled the sword out of his father and turned around.

"Merlin," he whispered in fear.

Modred knew he was strong but not quite strong enough to defeat Merlin. He had long stopped calling Merlin, Emrys, the name given to him by the druids of who had raised him.

"So Arthur is dead," Merlin said softly, betraying no emotion. "Killed at your hand, I knew this day would come, but I hopped it would not."

"So what are you going to do now Merlin," Modred said more confident than he sounded.

Merlin's answer shocked him and those that followed even more so. "Nothing."

"Nothing," Modred yelled. "I have just killed your King, your best friend, and you're just going to stand back and do nothing."

"You're the sole heir, to the throne Modred, and now the King is dead." Merlin said. "I can do nothing."

"Yes, you can," Modred screamed at Merlin. "Kill me, punish me, send me to some faraway land, do something."

"Are you feeling guilty Modred?"Merlin asked.

Modred didn't answerer.

"Perhaps through this single act you have already been punished. You feel remorse for a man you have no love for and no connection to besides your blood. That is your punishment Modred, to feel, you have rid yourself of feeling for others and I have bought it back through a man you do not love so you will feel as others do when they find there king is dead."

Merlin turned to leave. "Where are you going?" Modred cried.

"There's nothing left for me in Camelot, Merlin said.

"Then where shall you go?" Modred asked.

Merlin smiled and peace showed on his face. "To visit a friend, a visit long that is long overdue."

Modred thought about this for a second confused. "And what shall I do?" he asked.

Merlin spread his arms wide. "Our Destiny may have laid out for us Modred, but it is up to us which path we take to get there."

Modred nodded taking this in and Merlin marvelled at how much his spell had changed the boy. It didn't really change him it just showed what was already there hiding beneath all his years of living a life of negativity.

Modred stared towards the towers of Camelot and he knew what he had to do. He knew he would never be a great king as his father, but he would do his best. "Thank you Merlin," he said turning to face him again but Merlin was gone and so was the king.
