It was the first day of classes for Corbin's 6th year at Hogwarts, and he was as excited as ever. He darted around the corner of the doorway into the library. He was in a bit of a rush. His trips there were the best part of the day, in his opinion. Reading to excess was a bit of a taboo in his home. But he no sooner zipped around the corner then he ran right into a Hufflepuff girl with her head down, knocking the stack of books from her arms.
"Sorry." He said, rushed. She, too, seemed in a hurry.
"My fault." She said quickly back, bending to her knees to re-stack the books in her arms.
Corbin leaned in time to retrieve the last one she seemed to have failed to pick up. As he stood again, he realized that the the cause of this was her arms already being too full. "Got enough books there, have you?" He joked.
"Impossible feat." She replied vaguely.
"Quite right." He agreed, smiling.
Her returning smile was so radiant, he lost his train of thought. The Hufflepuff seemed to be suffering the same aliment, and they stood there together a moment, smiling at each other dreamily, until she snapped back to attention. It could only have been a few seconds at best, but as she rushed off to her next destination with a hurried farewell, Corbin couldn't help thinking how lovely the moment had been. He suddenly wished, not for the first time, that he hadn't been placed in Slytherin. How he hoped for a second encounter...
The second time Hollie saw the Slytherin boy, she was leaving the library in a hurry, yet again, trying to get back to her dormitory to drop off her books before class. As she went to turn the corner, he was there, narrowly missing her. He'd have knocked her books from her arms again had he not sidestepped just in time. "Sorry." Hollie mumbled, embarrassed at almost having collided twice.
"Quite all right." He replied amiably. He was nothing like the other Slytherins she'd come across. They had all been so snide and rude. How had she never met this boy before? She'd been at Hogwarts 4 years already...
She smiled at his kindness, and again they shared a moment, there in the entrance to the library, while all the world around them seemed not to notice.
