I was so sorry to see the last episode of Stargate Universe. It was starting to be very good and now they leave us hanging there, not knowing if Eli was able to fix his stasis pad, not knowing if they all survived the next 3 years, romances starting and not able to see how they progress. So much potential! I'll just have to write some stories to keep it all going.
So here is my first one. Hope you like it. Love feedback!
Going to sleep
Eli watched the worlds go by, smiling briefly, taking in the view before heading down to the stasis chambers again.
He had been alone now for 10 days, trying to figure out what was wrong with the last remaining pod. Destiny had shut down, returned to the state they had found her in. Except now she was carrying a very precious cargo, his friends.
Ok, they may not all be his friends but they were his family now.
Slowly he walked passed each of them, making sure all systems were running as they should. For a moment he stopped at Cloe's pod. It had been such a rollercoaster when Glinn had appeared in her body. If only Rush . . . . No, he couldn't think like that. He had had the same thoughts, using the chair to link up with Glinn. But in the end he had to quarantine her, away from the ship, impossible to visit him again. He could use the company now. She could even have helped him, maybe.
He had to find a way to fix the pod. For he had promised her to find her a body she could return into. And if he died here, let's say in the next four days, he would never be able to keep that promise.
Perhaps that was the solution. If he could not get the pod fixed, he could transfer his consciousness into Destiny, just like he had done with Glinn. And then he'd be able to keep an eye on the ship until they jumped to the next galaxy.
But no, that would not be fair on his mother. She hoped to see him, or at least a body with him in it, in three years.
So there was no other solution but to work and find the glitch that was keeping him from a well-deserved sleep.
He had read nearly all 1700 pages in the database related to the subject. If this had been an Earth manual, the 'what to do if' would be at the end of the book. Perhaps he should have started reading at the end. But he had learned a lot in the last 10 days. So much, he had been able to streamline the power consumption even more. Now he was sure they would make it to the other side. But would he?
Last page.
Eli smiled. Could it be as simple as that?
He walked to the stasis chamber. Underneath the grid was a small connector. He looked at the silly small bit of electronics. This little thing had kept him awake?
Carefully he pushed the connector back into place. The pod immediately lit up. Eli checked the status again. All green lights. He was ready to go to sleep.
Once more, he roamed the ship, making his way to the observation deck. It was so beautiful. Would it still be there in three years?
He swallowed hard as he stood in front of his pod. No way back: either die in the next few days or sleep and hopefully wake up. He had added a safety routine to the system to wake him up in case something went wrong with Destiny and she needed his help.
Eli stepped into the pod, turned around and closed his eyes.
Quietly Destiny put her last passenger to sleep. She'd take care of them now.
