A loud rumble filled the night sky as Sirius rode forward. "Lily, James
please be alright,"he whispered under his breath,"Please let this feeling
be wrong." Yet as he got closer to the town, he could already see the signs
of distress. The house was nearly destroyed!
He landed quickly and jumped off the motorcycle."James! Lily!"he shouted as
he ran through the ruins of what was once a beautiful and peaceful home.
But even as he called out for his friends the silence seemed to tell him the
what he knew deep inhis heart. By now his searching became frantic, they HAD to
be alive. He wouldn't believe it! He'd rather die right then and there then to accept
the fact that they might be dead.
He quickly turned around a corner and nearly knocked himself out running
into the giant man in the way. It took a while for the face to register
in Sirius' mind. "Hagrid!", he shouted jumping to his feet,"Where are James and Lily?
Are they alright? What about Harry? Is he alright?" All of his questions seemed to
be answered when Hagrid looked down sadly at the bundle of blankets he held in his arms.
That one little action gave Sirius all of the information that he needed. He stumbled
back in shock, for some reason what he saw just wasn't registering.
He looked from Hagrid to the sleeping baby boy that was in his arms and suddenly his grief
and shock were replaced with rage.He knew who was responsible for this and he'd make sure that
he'd pay. He looked back up at Hagrid "Give him to me", he said calmly,"I'm his godfather he's
my responsibility now that James and Lily are..."He just couldn't say it, for some reason he wouldn't
believe it either. He came back to reality when he realized that Hagrid was making no move to give the
child to him. "Sorry, but I've got my orders from Dumbledore to take 'im straight to his Aunt an' Uncle's."
Sirius mentally cringed, Dumbledore didn't trust him. *Might as well let him think what he wants* he thought
glumly *There's no real way to clear your name,at least not yet...* He looked back at Hagrid,"Alright",he said
with a weak smile,"Take my motorcycle, you need to get out of here before the muggles start swarming." Hagrid
opened his mouth to say something, but then decided against it. With a swift nod he carefully climbed on the
bike and took off.
Had he been in a better mood, Sirius could've laughed at the sight of the huge man flying away on the motorcycle.
"Goodbye young one," he said as he watched the shapes grow smaller and smaller as the man sped away. "Perhaps the
next time we meet, it'll be under much better circumstances." He turned his back to the now nearly visible shapes
and looked upon the ruins one last time."Lily..James..I swear that I'll make him pay. He'll wish that he was never
born when I'm finished with him." He sighed and put aside his anger,"Don't worry about your son, when this is all over
I'll take good care of him. SO that he never suffers such a loss again."
