Second Chance at a First Impression

SMACK "Tag—you're it!" a young girl said after sneaking up and hitting a young boy from behind. He turned and before he could retaliate in any way she ran off. He frowned getting ready to go after her. He heard a familiar soft laugh from behind him. He looked to see a tall young man with short, messy, bleach-blond hair with raven-black tips and dark crystal green eyes.

"Leave it, Takuto. You'll get a chance later. After you two are married of course!" Takuto glared as this was said.

"Kumith, you're terrible. And anyways, we're just friends. We don't want to get married. You're not married." Kumith frowned at his younger cousin for being so 'naíve'.

"The reason I've not married yet is because I've not found the right woman to wed. And I've asked to choose my bride for myself. Your and Mizuki's parents arranged your marriage Takuto. I've yet to get permission to go to the outer world to look for a wife. Now leave off and go get Mizuki for lessons." Kumith said giving his rebellious younger cousin a slight shove. Takuto gave him a look.

"Yeah—whatever Kumith. No one's allowed into the outer world. Keep dreaming." Takuto said as he walked away. "Like there really is an outer world anyway." He muttered. How things change in an instant.

He found Mizuki at the fountain in his family's courtyard. More like in the fountain. What she was doing in the fountain, he didn't know.

"Mizuki what are you doing? You're going to get in trouble for being late." She looked up and smiled.

"Hey Takuto! Don't worry. I won't be late. I want to talk to you anyways." She said as she climbed out of the fountain towards him. "I want to tell you something special." She said leaning close to him.

"What do you want to tell me?" he asked looking at her in the eyes. Before he knew it, she'd kissed him. As she pulled away she said something to him. Something special. As she said it though an oval of darkness appeared behind her and two hands came out and pulled her through. Before Takuto could even try to do anything she was gone. That's when three words took a newer, more special meaning in his heart. Those three same words Mizuki said to him right before she was kidnapped. I love you. He fell to his knees, staring at the spot where Mizuki had stood. He wasn't able to tell her.

"I love you, Mizuki. I'll find you and tell you." He whispered as the wind started raging around him.
