Genderswap AU. Kind of. Starla (Steven's gender counter) is a lot more in tune with the world and very self-conscious of herself. She also assumes the worst. If that makes "Steven" OOC, I am so so SO sorry! Just think of Starla as her own character.

Starla couldn't believe what she was doing. Was she truly doing this? Was she truly leaving that note, leaving her home, her friends, her family? She nodded to herself before she took off running again. She had her hot-dog duffel bag filled with water bottles, Lion Nuggets, and books about survival, including the Boxcar Gals, and a knife that could cut open the boxes of food. She kept running till she came across a train. It didn't look like it was stopping any time soon. She took all her power and leaped in.

She nearly fell out but was able to steady herself. "Woah!" Starla let out a sigh as she began to drink some water and read chapter 2 of the Boxcar Gals: Catchers in the Valley. Eventually, the train stopped unconventionally and the conductor got out. Starla, afraid of getting caught, got out of the boxcar and ran into a desolate valley. She gasped as she ran into it, and began to walk panting and looking around. On a platform, there was a warp pad, strange cylindrical items clinging to the walls of the valley.

The walls had holes that looked like humans. She found a very low hole that she could just slide to the back. "This is," shivers went up and down her spine, "creepy." She was too wrapped up in her findings to notice the warp pad go off.

"Starla!" Pearl called.

"Hm?" Starla was about to shout back, but remembered why she was doing this, and let herself into the shadow of the hole.

"Starla! Garnet, are you sure she's here?"

"Positive." Garnet called back.

"Let's find her and go!" Amethyst cried. He hated seeing this place, how it just reminded everything he hated about himself. The Gems continued calling.

They'd come for her. Or was it the Gem? That's the whole reason Starla left. If Quartz were here, this would be SO much easier. Amethyst's words rung through her head.

Sometimes I wonder if he can see me through your eyes. Pearl had run away because Starla didn't know Quartz.

"I didn't ask for this…" Starla grumbled as tears threatened to fall. "I didn't ask to be made…I'm sorry I'm not hi-" Starla stopped herself. "It's not like anyone cares about me…" Starla told herself.

Conner… "You're just ashamed of me!" Starla yelled. Conner had lied to her about how he wanted to be friends. He liked her only for her powers, which came from her dad…

Mom… "Oh, ow!" Her mother had made her feel bad, just to have a roof over her head… sure, she said, "I just want to spend time with you!" but Starla was done with people thinking that she was easy to manipulate. She wasn't as sheltered as others thought.

Starla had been a wrestler way before she pretended to come across Amethyst while on her way to a match in the hype rounds in between the tournaments. Starla sniveled. Why couldn't someone just like her for who she was? Personality. No magic, no father, no connections. She heard the Warp Pad go off, but didn't come out again until 3 minutes later.

Starla let a small, sad, smile grace her lips. "Bye." She whispered and headed deeper into the valley.
