Hello everyone! This is my first fan-fiction for the Hunger Games. I wrote this during Geometry to, funny huh? That's why I probably have a C in that class to. Oh well, can't take it back now. A little different than what I usually write about. (Anime, guys) so I hope you like this one-shot. Enjoy!

You can never know something

Until you've experienced it

You can never feel hate

Until you understand it

And sometimes you can't hate

Because you brought it upon yourself

The Capitol is a terrible place. Strange people live there. Weak people are kept there. She was trying to thrive there; Katniss Everdeen. She needed to stay there. She needed to travel to and from there every weekend. She was too poor to ride the train. She had to give them the money to the family she had left. She had to keep them alive.

Love and abuse.

She goes to the designated room and waited. Tonight was Friday, her best night. So she waited for someone, anyone. She needed that money. She would die for that money. Let them live.

Abuse and death.

Footsteps were coming down the hall. She waited with a plastered smile on her face. Fake it, fake everything. It was her regular client; he paid well. However, he was never gentle.

Death and afterlife.

However she survives this, she would never know. Yet she had to make it home. Running on the train tracks, she can get home faster that way. She was tired, hungry, and hurt.

She tripped face first into the tracks. A nail went through her leg, yet she doesn't scream. She's too cold to feel anything. It was winter now, it made the journey somewhat longer. The nail kept her to those tracks. Katniss thought she would be lucky enough to die in her sleep. Maybe she could at least from blood loss at this point in time.

In the distant mountains, an echoing, faint horn of a train traveled into her ears. Hopefully it was a long train, so then it would completely crush her. Katniss saw the light, but she knew it wouldn't see her. Yet, maybe it would, but she didn't really care anymore.

The hover train was right in front of her. The first car went over her body before falling onto the tracks. However, it only crushed the lower half of her body. There was no pain, only sadness. It appears that this was the train Peeta was riding home from the Capitol. She saw him crawl out of the tipped train car's window. He looked over at her and screamed her name. He ran to her, grasping her hand and bringing it to his face. She opened her eyes and smiled. Peeta has never seen her smile like this in a long time.

"Peeta," she whispered, "Can you sing to me like when I was scared in the arena again?"

He smiled and nodded, but this time, it was a different song. A song she wasn't familiar with,

"Just one kiss and I will be hooked to her fire

Her flames are surrounding me now

As we watch as they light up the sky

We must stand up and fight

Cause this love is not a game to me

We'll survive…

Start…uprising

Stand and…

Don't…."

She was gone now. His words were the last thing she would ever hear. Her hand went limp in his as he started crying. She was the only one who could understand the pain he was in. Haymitch was long gone, and of course his family abandoned him. He was lost in despair.

His life was over.

And walla! It is done! I was going to use Gale, but this song was obviously meant for Katniss and Peeta. Anyways, this is set in Mockingjay, kind of? I'm not sure. It's like a mixture of the first and third book. The idea just came to me. So anyways, I hope you enjoyed it!
