She was the wolf.
Her.
She had killed the livestock.
The hunting party.
Peter.
Falling to her knees, Red could no longer hold back the heart wrenching sob. She was a monster. Why had Granny not told her? If she had known, she would have been more careful. Those men would still be alive. Peter would still be alive. Yes, it was all that old woman's fault!
Red only cried more.
No...no, it wasn't Granny's fault. The woman had only been trying to protect her. Red knew that. It wasn't fair to blame Granny, no matter how much she wanted to.
Why didn't she ever listen? She was so stubborn. If she had just worn the hood like she was supposed to...none of this would have happened. All she had to do was wear the hood. It was such a simple task. Why didn't she listen?
It was her fault.
Because of her, Peter was dead. She had killed the one mad she had ever loved.
Maybe she should just...after all, it would be so easy.
With shaking hands, Red pulled a small dagger from its sheath. It was a simple thing, one she always carried with her. It would be so easy. No one would ever be hurt by her again. No more pain, no more death, except her own. She sat on the snow covered ground, her red hood covering her like a shield.
With shaking hands, she brought the dagger to her breast, and with gasping breaths, she closed her eyes...and threw the dagger away, like it was a snake that had struck her.
What was she doing? She couldn't do this! It was a coward's way out. She was no coward. Staring at the dagger, she forced herself to stand and pick it up, placing it back where it belonged.
On that snowy hill, she vowed to never remove her hood. That way, no one would ever be harmed by the wolf inside her. She would fight this, and she would win.
With a new found confidence, Red pulled the hood tight around herself and continued through the woods, confident that her new life would be the one she always wanted. No big bad wolf was going to stop her.
Hope you like it! I wrote this on a whim in my finance management class...no flames please! aka: if you can't say anything nice/constructive, don't say anything at all.
