Disclaimer: -sighs- If I owned Twilight, New Moon, or Eclipse, I wouldn't have written this in the first place.
A/N: SPOILERS FOR ECLIPSE. Well, kind of. I guess. Not really. But anyway. I really had the urge to write this after finishing the book last night, because the ending just broke my heart. And I'm a total Jacob fangirl (if you can't tell). This is my first time writing Twilight fanfiction, so please go easy on me. I'm usually a reader, not a writer. :P

He hates the sun.

He hates everything about it. The warmth that never fades, the light that never really goes away, the way it never ages. How even when the sky is at its darkest, you just know that it's going to come around again, because it can never stay away for too long. Never, never, never.

He hates it because every time he looks at it, he's reminded of her and their last conversation together.

He hates it because she was right; he was her "personal sun".

Jacob Black was just like that burning star; warm, loyal, and ageless.

But he grits his teeth and swallows all thoughts of soft, dark hair and laughter, letting them turn to ash in the wind.

He often goes running at dawn, just to see if he can outrun the vibrant reds and yellows and reach the edge of the slowly dying night, and maybe (just maybe) stay there until day dwindles down to twilight.

He never makes it.

But even at night, the sun creeps through and enters his mind. He dreams of motorcycles and reckless cheers, of dark eyes, cold hands, and "Jacob, my Jacob…"

He wakes up to harsh light, wet cheeks, and Billy in the doorway with words that pity.

--

There's a commotion outside while he's eating dinner – he can hear Quil's angry voice resonate throughout his head. Letting the fork clatter to his plate, he takes off to see what the ruckus is about.

"They've broken the treaty!" He hears Embry growl in front of him, and for a moment, he doesn't understand what he means.

Then he sees them.

A male and a female, standing side by side. The male has a slightly worried look in his eye, his hand locked around the female's wrist, restraining her. She doesn't look worried like he does, but panicked, and a little bit eager.

When he makes his way through the shaking bodies of his family, the female starts and smiles, moving toward him. Her companion keeps her pinned at his side.

"Jacob…" she whispers with eyes that plead.

One of the newer members glances at him, stunned. "You know her?"

Calmly, he takes in her unnaturally pale skin and golden irises, wrinkling his nose just a bit from the odor that was emanating from the pair.

Yes, something about her is familiar. But the girl standing in front of him is a stranger.

"No."

Tears gather at the corners of her eyes, and she stares at him blankly. The male utters an apology, and, to everyone's surprise, Sam lets them off with only a warning, glancing quickly at the female with what could be empathy.

Her companion then lightly tugs her into the opposite direction, but the girl keeps her gaze on the man she had come to see.

"Jake… Jacob Black…"

He just stands there, stone-faced, and watches them leave.

The Jacob she had been talking about would have said something more, would have wanted to take her into his arms and never let go.

But he can't.

Because Jacob Black doesn't exist anymore.
