My Pledge.

.

If I can by my life or death

protect and guide you to the end

I'll gladly lay my dreams aside,

This quest fulfill, this world provide

with peace and everlasting love,

Forgoing mine own scanty hope.

.

My own desire is forfeit now,

I would in faith my love depart

to shores afar where she my live

forever, with her kin and kith.

So as this world she does forsake,

another step t'ward doom I'll take.

.

That thing you carry at your breast

grows heavier each passing hour.

I see it weighing down your soul,

I hear it's voice, I feel it's cold

malignance growing every step

and wish I could do more to help.

.

Yet if I offered it to bear

t'would be the very death of me,

And all we aim here to achieve

would crumble 'way to dust and leave

the world at Sauron's feet forever,

Bound to darkness, undelivered.

.

So I will watch and guide your feet

as long as you will have me here,

My sword is yours, it will not turn

from duty until all is done.

Your heart is true, your strength belied

within that body small in size.

.

Yet out of all this fellowship

I would none other trust but you.

So pure of thought and word and deed

Of baser things you have no need

The Shire is all your heart desires,

to sit and think by homely fires.

.

This quest may see us all undone

yet hope remains whilst each stay true

I can not promise easy paths,

nor lack of danger, light in darkest

corners we shall travel through.

Just know that I will follow you.

.

Until the bitter end I pledge

my sword, my life to see this through,

and if successful we should be

I shall rejoice, but not for me.

For my heart dwells with she who sails

to far off land where life prevails.
