I Belong to Me

Author Note: So, it's been a while since I've written a Kat-centric story. The last I remember was 'Closure,' but that revolved on a different level. Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy it.

Disclaimer: I don't own PR or the character Katherine Hillard. They belong respectively to Saban and Disney.

High school was gone and life was changing for the young scholar. Katherine Hillard was anticipating her four years at the Royal Dance Academy in London. She, like most graduated high school seniors, she anticipated being away from home as well as explore the life outside of the states.

It was the year 1997 when she graduated with honors at Angel Grove High and was as excited as ever. Her friends were all doing different paths in life – Tanya Sloan, she was moving to NYC to study at New York University, Adam Park, he was off to do some stunt work for the amusement parks locally till his first semester at Angel Grove University was to start in late August, Rocky DeSantos, according to him, he was going to explore the life of working as well. He was determined to work at his karate school before heading back into the books, but there was one that stuck in her mind – Tommy Oliver.

From what she heard, Tommy joined his uncle's racetrack that year. He was focused and determined to aim for a win that year. Course, she and Oliver dated, but now things were changing. She visited him at the race track a few days later after graduation.

"Hey Tommy," she smiled as she clutched her yearbook tightly as she watched him prepare for a long practice at the track. "How are you?" Tommy looked up as he beamed a smile at her.

"Hey," her friend replied as he grinned. "What's up?" Kat smirked a little as she handed him the big blue book. Also, she handed him a pen to write with. Tommy sat on the stairs of the bleachers as he began to write to her.

"Is it true that you're going off to the Royal Dance Academy?"

"Yeah, for a whole year. I can't wait."

The tall-legged ballerina smiled in excitement. Her flight was in a few days, but couldn't wait to explore the world. She anticipated since the day she received word from the scouts. She ran around her room, beaming with an assured smile as she grinned from ear to ear before showing the acceptance letter to her folks.

Tommy, on the other hand, focused on bettering himself. Sure, racing would be a great profession, but would be exciting at the same time to see many things and places. Course, he couldn't forget his friends, or Kat.

"What're you writing, a book?" she teased as she crossed her arms. Her friend gave a smug of a grin as he looked up from writing. "I hope I'm not keeping you."

"Oh no," he shook his head. Tommy continued writing as he read over what he was writing. "Don't worry; I'm not keeping you from packing am I?" Kat shook her head as she waited. She saw some drivers speeding cross the track as she watched them.

"Alright, I'm all done."

"Great, can I take a look?"

Tommy handed her the rather large book as he capped the pink pen she had given him. She looked up at him, in wonderment. At first, she was confused, but looked at her friend.

Katherine,

You are an amazing young woman. Follow your heart and your dreams; after all you belong to only yourself.

Love,

Tommy

"What do you mean Tommy, I only belong to myself?" she asked her friend, sitting down next to him.

"I mean that, with everything that you and I have been through, you are the only person that determines your own destiny," he explained as he looked at her. He hugged her as she looked at him.

"Thanks Tommy. Best of luck to you in the future, huh?"

"Agreed, best wishes Kat."

The two hugged as they watched the races before Tommy went off to practice around the track. In the end, Kat did belong to herself. She was the only one that could determine her own destiny, and Tommy was right about that.
