The door had not locked. Riku and Mickey were fighting to keep it closed.
They weren't winning.
The door was cracked open, slowly, ever so slowly, like it did every night, and the darkness was seeping out, eating away at hope . . .
And the door burst.
Kairi woke screaming.
Selphie's mom ran into her room, holding a lamp. She found Kairi weeping in a corner of her bed, cringing from the shadows.
Every night, Kairi woke sobbing from a dream, but this as the first time she had screamed.
Kairi didn't open her eyes when Selphie's mom pulled her into a hug, but she spoke in a cracked, wooden tone.
"The shadows . . . they grabbed me, and opened the path . . . The path to Death. Everyone's death."
