Author's Note: Just a quick little oneshot for my latest obsession, BBC's Sherlock. I adore this pairing to pieces. (I don't care if Sebastian Moran hasn't appeared in the show yet. He's canon in the books.) I thought this all out when I was in the shower, and wrote it immediately, so it may be a little rushed. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own BBC Sherlock. If I did, Sebastian Moran would be canon.
Sebastian Moran, by chance, overheard an interesting statement. "When you walk with Sherlock Holmes, you see the battlefield." The phrase struck him as odd, but he quickly forgot about it a few hours later.
However, when he was sitting on a rooftop, staking out his next target, the phrase re-surfaced in his mind. (Probably because Jim had just ranted to him for the last two hours about his "darling little Sherlock" and his mind conjured up the thought once more.) Anyway, it got Sebastian Moran thinking: what did you see when you walked with James Moriarty?
Well for one, he was never bored. Jim made sure he was plenty busy with jobs or trivial errands. ("Pick up my dry cleaning Seb. We're out of wine Seb. Go shoot this business man Seb." Honestly, Jim probably just got off on the fact he could tell Sebastian what to do, and the other would actually do it.) Sebastian had seen companies destroyed, people tortured and killed, riots start, buildings burn, and powerful people fall to their knees all because of James Moriarty.
And then Sebastian's mind drifted to the very rare nights of peace, where he would watch crap telley, as Jim would plan for the following day or read a book. They would eat take out on the couch, in comfortable silence. Whole conversations would be communicated in a few motions of the hand or a quirk of an eyebrow. Those nights were Sebastian's favorites.
His relationship with Jim was complicated, to say the least. (In that sense, he felt that he could sympathize with John Watson.) Sebastian cared for Jim Moriarty; that was a fact. You had to care for him in order to put up with his madness. Sebastian would die for Jim Moriarty, if a situation ever demanded it. Their relationship started as professional, but over time, the line between business and pleasure began to blur. At first, the sex was casual. A stress relief of sorts. But as time went on, they both knew that something had changed. Somewhere between the killings, planning, and sex, they fell in love. It was never explicitly stated; there was no need for that. Everything was said in the way that Sebastian would do anything Jim asked, and the way that Jim's gaze lingered on Sebastian's face a few moments longer than necessary.
As Sebastian waited on top of the chilly rooftop, Sebastian again thought of the question: what do you see when you walk with James Moriarty. He couldn't speak for anyone else, but when Sebastian Moran walked with James Moriarty, he saw madness, brilliance, and the thin line that separates them. When Sebastian Moran walked with James Moriarty, he saw lust, fear, trust, love, and determination like no other.
Sebastian pulled the trigger of his rifle, killing his target in one shot. He saw the victim's blood paint the wall, then proceeded to pack up his guns. As he descended the building's stairs, he received a text from his boss. "Come home. We have big plans, Sebby. Big, big plans. –JM" Sebastian smiled as he slipped his phone back into his pocket. When Sebastian Moran walked with James Moriarty, he was man in its truest form.
Author's Note: I hoped you liked it! I may write more of these two later. Feedback is always appreciated!
