The silence of the room was broken by the creak of the door opening. Warm air met A/C air, though the coolness of the room was unaffected. Stepping inside rather lazily, Hibari Kyoya shut the door. With a stifled yawn, he trudged toward one of the two couches in the reception room. A sparkle at the corner of his eye caught his attention. He looked and saw that it was a box wrapped in shiny wrapping. A vein pulsed at his temple, and his eyes narrowed in anger and annoyance.
He had every right to be.
Who would dare come into his room on a school day off?
Without a second thought, he strode over to his desk, mildly surprised to see everything still in place and nothing stolen. His temper soothed down-just a bit of course. He snatched the small box and inspected it. The wrapper was nothing more but foil, and there was no name tag or note. The box weighed about a pound or two. Nothing jingled or moved when he shook it. He contemplated on whether to throw it in the trash or open it; but seeing that this box was sitting on his desk, it must be meant for him. Right?
If this turns out to be a prank, I'll simply skip biting the herbivore to death, and send them into a coma, he thought bitterly.
Slowly and cautiously, his fingers worked through the foil; it came off with just a flick. What amazing creativity this herbivore possesses...
Now all he was left with, was an irregular shaped box. It had a wooden texture, but it was cool to the touch, like metal. It was a light grey color, and its weight was solid and compact, also like metal. Though it also appeared fragile.
What could it be?
Turning it around, Hibari found a diamond shaped hole. Realization struck, and he looked back at the foil. He frowned at the sight of a tiny object at his feet. Plucking it off the carpeted floor, he could see that the object was a ring, and diamond shaped. He looked at the hole and back to the ring. For some strange reason, Hibari was beginning to feel like a little kid. A strange box and a ring for a key, given for him it seemed. Not an everyday experience for him. When was the last time he received anything? Besides this reception room all for himself-that he got by force-and chances to fight strong opponents-somewhat by force. He pushed the ring into the hole.
A light click startled him out of his trance. The box shifted in his palm. His ears perked up at the sound of tinkling, both high and low, as the box opened up. His breath hitched as soon as he heard the melody this box was playing. His eyes widened just enough as he saw the small structure inside the box.
The small music box seemed to glow as it played the anthem, in a more slow and sleepy tempo. The tiny structure of Nami-chuu was beautifully carved, and was that Hibird? Every melodic note raised goosebumps on the head prefect's arm, and its bass notes lulled his eyes. Soon, the twinkling slowed, and box began to close. The last notes resounded, and the box clicked to a close.
...Never in his life has the prefect heard something so...so amazing.
A few seconds ticked by, but Hibari stood still. Many thoughts invaded his head, but the most prominent one had to be: I'm going to bite this herbivore to death...
But looking closely, you could see the faint smile tugging the corner of his lips, and the content glimmer in his slate eyes.
...Though this is...a wondrous gift, definitely.
feliz cinco de mayo. a day late (theyre ahead in japon), but yeah...wouldnt he just love a music box playing namichuus anthem? just a thought.
