Now without further ado,
The Will
"This is so messed up," Ron practically spat, "he's not even dead yet."
"At least he didn't write us out of his will" Fred said dimly trying to say something positive.
He was in Ron's room with his little brother seeking refuge from the sights and sound of pity and grief that were resounding from downstairs. Today his older brother's will was being read and a few friends had stopped by to support their family through their grieving, but one could only hear 'I'm sorry for your loss' so many times before they got absolutely fed up with it. And Fred was exhausted from trying to make his family smile, a futile effort on his part. There was nothing funny about what happened to their brother.
Ron looked at him disgusted and scoffed, "Our brother is as good as dead and all you can think of is what's in it for you?"
"That's not what I meant! And you know it!" Fred snapped angrily, "I don't give a damn about what Percy left me! I don't want it! All I want is my brother back!"
A thick miserable silence took hold of the room. Fred had brought back the very same miserable gloom he had been trying so hard to get rid of for the past week. Grief and regret resurfaced on Ron's face.
"Sorry..." Ron muttered somberly
"Besides," Fred continued "what could Percy possibly have that he'd think I deserve, or even want?"
"His Prefect Badge."
Ginny walked into the room and handed Percy's Prefect Badge to Fred.
"'Because you never could keep your bloody hands off it.'" She said with a watery smile. "That's what he wrote in his will. See? It says it right here."
She held the will up to her brother. Fred read the words but couldn't believe it; Percy had made a joke in his will. His will! Of all things!
"He left George his Head Boy Badge" Ginny told him. She wiped a tear from her eye but kept smiling.
Fred was barely listening. Percy had made a joke! And worst yet, it was funny! Fred found himself doubled over with laughter at the ridiculous, yet perfectly legible handwritten line. It had been so long since he had laughed this hard, he couldn't stop! Percy had made sure he had the last laugh after all! Fred slid down the wall laughing to the point of tears, but by the time he reached the floor he was sobbing uncontrollably. The floor creaked and Fred looked up to see Charlie and George standing in the doorway looking at him, sadly.
"George did you hear that?" Fred tried to smile through his tears " H-he left us h-his Big Head P-prefect Badges!"
"He what?" George asked. He couldn't make out what his twin was saying.
"H-he left us his-" Fred tried to swallow the lump in his throat, "He left us h-"
"He left us" Fred's voice cracked, his smile broke and all he could do was cry.
