Lightheadedness and a slight tinge of thirst. Those were the first signs that his body was in demand of red-blood cells, once again. Normally, the human body produces red-blood cells to replace those that have broken down. However, he could not, one of the many inconveniences of his species. He would have to hunt again tonight.

He threw down a cigarette bud as he rounded a corner, into a narrow alleyway between two buildings. People tend to avoid these kinds of places, especially at night. But he knew, at least a few of them would still bypass there, for the conveniences of a shortcut. A decent hunting ground, as he did not want to attract too much attention.

His prey finally showed up. She was a woman of about thirty, dressed in formal office attire. She carried an expensive looking handbag in her right hand and her left hand held a brown paper folder. She seemed distracted, her eyes staring at the ground below her instead of infront. Only the unconscious memories of taking that particular route everyday kept her from stumbling into the wrong direction. All the more easier for the vampire to make his kill.

Without hesitation, he leapt from the shadows and grabbed the woman from behind. One hand was pressed tightly over her mouth to prevent her from screaming. He then sank his fangs into her neck. He stopped only when his victim was deprived of her very last drop of blood. Satisfied and full, he tossed the body aside, amongst the several bags of trash bags. With a snap of his fingers, he ignited the body, getting rid of any evidence he might have left.

He turned and began walking out of the alley. He intended to get out of there before the fire's light caught the attention of other humans. Something was caught beneath his shoes as he began his walk back. It was the brown paper folder which belonged to his victim. He picked it up offhandedly, retrieved the documents inside, and began looking through them. He froze, his eyes wide and his already pale face turned a shade paler.

His victim was HIV positive.
