Diclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing

Last Chance

By Symee-Sama

Bile rose in his throat.

His chest constricted

And he found it hard to breathe.

His eyes closed,

And he tried desperately to collect his thoughts.

He raised a weak hand to his heart,

A dark sticky liquid

Staining his fingers.

His eyes opened, and he saw her face.

Tears flowing down her cheeks.

Was she crying for him?

He wanted to talk to her

Tell her that he would be fine

His lips moved

Yet no words came out

He reached for her

Tangling a shaking hand

In her golden hair

And his mouth moved

Trying to form the words

She had to know

He couldn't leave without telling her

He looked into her eyes,

Nearly flinching from the pain there,

The guilt.

It wasn't her fault

But he knew her.

Knew that she would blame herself.

It wasn't her fault

He had chosen to do it,

To put himself between her and her death

He would do it again in a heartbeat.

He would do anything for –

Pain racked his body,

His hand fell,

And he was floating;

Flying high above the crowds

Away from the pain,

Away from her.

No!

He fought to reach the ground

To reach her.

He couldn't leave without telling her.

A white light surrounded him

The pain vanished, and

He felt himself give up,

Surrendering to the peaceful feeling.

No!

Damn it!

He couldn't go yet!

He resisted the light, resisted the peace.

There was nothing for him here

No reason for him to stay.

His eyes drifted shut.

Only to open to a different light.

Colder, more clinical

He blinked

Trying to get his bearings.

Where was he?

He looked over and saw her.

Saw the white walls

Heard a machine beeping behind him.

Felt the throbbing pain in his chest.

And knew he didn't have very much time

He reached for her hand

Gripping it tightly

As though by holding onto it

He could hold onto life

Her eyes pierced his

And he forced his lips to move

I –

She placed a finger on his lips,

Urging him not to waste his strength

But he ignored her

They were out of time.

I –

He struggled to shape the words

Damn it!

He couldn't leave…

He didn't hear her quiet sobs

Or see her tears

As the machine behind him stopped beeping.

Author's Note: Like, 'Will I Have The Courage?' I didn't write this with Gundam Wing in mind, but some of my friends pointed out that it could be Gundam Wing related. I'd love to hear your interpretation of my poem, and who you thought the characters are… If you leave your email, I'll send you what I thought.
