He stood there looking at himself in the mirror. Checking to make sure he looked perfect. He looked down and realised that his hands were shaking. He tried to get them to stop but they refused, he cursed at himself. He was Jace fucking Lightwood! He didn't get nervous and even if he did you would never be able to tell.
Except when it came to Clary. Clary was flawless in every way. She was so amazing that it made him want to settle down with one girl, no one else had ever made him feel this way. He just wanted to be with her for the rest of his life and he couldn't screw this up. Jace reached into his pocket and pulled out the small velvet box, popping it open to make sure the diamond ring was sparkling bright enough. Shadow hunters normally didn't exchange rings but Jace wanted to give Clary this one part of the mundane world that she grew up in.
He slowly went down on one knee and held the box out toward the mirror. He cleared his voice and awkwardly began to practice for tonight.
"Clary I… you're the most important person in my life. You stuck with me through so many things and I…." his voice began to shake and he cleared his throat, then continued on with his speech to no one. "I want to be with you. Only you, for the rest of my life… and I… what I'm trying to say is, will you marry me?"
Jace looked down and let his arms fall. If he can't get through this talking to a mirror how is he ever going to do it in front of Clary.
Jace heard his door widen, and a soft voice "Jace?"
He jumped to his feet and put his hands behind his back, hiding the small box with the ring. Standing in his doorway was Clary. She looked so beautiful. Her hair was curling down on to her shoulders and her green eyes were so bright and full of life.
"Clary! How long were standing there?"
A smile came across her face as she entered the room and walked toward him. "Long enough to know you're and idiot." She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. A long, passionate, warm, kiss that made Jace's knees shake. After a long moment she pulled away. "Of course I'll marry you."
