All He Had Ever Known

All he had known his whole life was survival.

First he survived in denial.

Denial of his gifts, denial of his life, denial of his rights.

They denied him.

All he had known his whole life was defiance.

Defiance of cruelty, defiance of love, defiance of family.

He defied them.

All he had known his whole life was suffering.

First he suffered under them.

Suffered where he should have thrived,

He suffered and he survived.

And they never repented.

Survival, denial

Suffering

Defiance

Repentance

Pain

They hurt him

But he never told.

He spoke of hatred

He spoke of fighting

He spoke of injustice

But never did he mention pain

Perhaps he was too proud,

Perhaps he was just tired

Or maybe

He thought that no one would care.

This shaped him.

This moulded him.

This made him strong.

So when the Dark Lord came for him,

He was ready

He never broke

He never gave in

He survived trials.

He denied evil.

He suffered for friendship.

He repented for loss.

And he hurt.

All he had ever known was fighting.

So he fought

And when asked to die,

He did so willingly.

After all,

What did he have to live for?
