Kvothe looked on as Bast danced with the blacksmith's newest apprentice, a handsome fellow with delicate features. He had soft auburn hair and freckles. He was particularly short and slim. Unlike Kvothe, the man looked younger than he really was. He looked to be about seventeen but said he was twenty.
The two danced in the inn for much of the night, ignoring questioning looks from the other dancers, and as Kvothe observed, he wondered if Bast was going after a boy this time.
Everyone for miles around knew Bast was popular with the ladies; he'd slept with most of the women in town. But, he seemed especially fond of the apprentice. Bast's actions were undeniably out of character, so Kvothe decided to investigate after closing.
