The Lion and the Adder

A/N: I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER! although i wish i did

*sigh* so yeah on with the story...

All was quiet in the deep green undergrowth. The sound of paws on grass could be heard as they ran through the forest. The gray paws skidded to a halt on the side of a meadow where the tom could see many two leg teens, some lay on the grass, others talked, some argued, all of them doing something at least. The cat frowned in worry. Why were these kits not fleeing? Were they mouse brains?

"They obviously don't know of the danger ….yet," The gray tom sighed, how at ease they looked. They should be running, hiding, doing something besides this…

He didn't have time to finish that thought however when he was brought to the most important task at hand. He had to warn them, somehow he just had to. He flicked his tail impatiently as the kits began to head back to their large den. The tom had to admit the creature couldn't get inside of that thing without hurting itself. He was so busy admiring the castle that he failed to notice a two tabbies and a flat faced cat with an orange tail. They all bristled at the newcomer.

"Who are you?" one of the tabbies demanded, her voice so stern the tom vaguely remembered his mother using that tone.

"…" The tom wasn't sure what to do at the moment. These cats seemed hostile.

He decided that he would answer that question carefully.

"I'm here to warn you," He began. "And if you want to live I suggest you and all those kits get up and leave soon. There's a creature running on the loose and if you're not careful you'll end up dead," With that the tom turned on his heel and ran through the clearing so fast they wondered exactly how horrible this creature was…

As one confused Harry Potter was leaving Transfiguration he noticed Professor McGonagall seemed rather odd. She was greatly agitated and jumpy. When Harry had asked about how to keep the mice (that they were using to change their colors) from escaping her, nearly freaked out. Harry could see concern and worry etched on her face. It wasn't until dinner that Harry noticed all the teachers seemed nervous, agitated, worried or just simply concerned. "What's with the teacher's," asked one very confused looking Ron.

"I honestly don't know," replied Harry. So the next few days went like this until one day, Dumbledore couldn't put it off any longer. He had to warn the students.

"Everyone I have an announcement to make." Dumbledore waited until it was silent.

"There seems to be a strange creature running through the forbidden forest. Most of the creature's that lived there are now running in hopes of finding a better home. One even tried to warn us but at the time there was no creature, but now there is a problem. Apparently the one who warned us is bringing his clan to the castle. Do not worry," he began as he noticed some of frightened looks his students wore.

"These creatures are some that we know well her at Hogwarts, as a matter of fact some of you may own one right now. These creatures are… cats," he finished with a grin. All the students visibly relaxed. Even Harry let out a sigh of relief. He wasn't sure he could take any more stress. First Voldemort, then the Death eaters, and if he was lucky maybe even win his crush's heart. You see poor Harry had a crush, but not on just any one, oh no it just had to be someone who despised Harry since First year. (A/N: I'll give you three guesses. The one who gets it right gets five cookies! O3O)

Now poor Harry was in a strange predicament. Even though he was in Gryffindor, Harry had problems with telling about how he felt. He hated to tell anyone, even his friends, about his life. So he never did, he just kept a smile on his face and acted normally.
