Jo felt a sharp pain in her chest when she looked at her phone and saw who was calling. Camille. Just seeing her name appear on the tiny screen caused her throat to swell up and her eyes to water. Jo just stared at it until it stopped ringing. She took a few shaky breaths, determined not to cry. She wasn't worth it. Not after what she did.
Then her phone chimed, "1 New Voice mail," it said. Jo reached out her trembling arm and pressed play.
"Jo? It's me, Camille. I'm sorry. I'm so so so sorry. She didn't mean anything to me. I was sick of our relationship being a secret. I was crying when she found me and she was just there to comfort me. I know that's no excuse. But God, please just let me make it up to you. I thought being with someone else, who was open, would help heal the hurt of having to hide with you… but it didn't. I realize that. I realize you're the only one for me. I-I love you, Jo. (sobs) I'll do whatever it takes to make you see that. I'll do whatever it takes to get you back. I just want you to be here and hold me, and tell me you forgive me and everything will be okay. Please, just call me back? I love you. Bye."
She couldn't hold back the sob that escaped her mouth. This wasn't the first time she'd been with someone else. She knew that. People whispered. Some even bragged. But this was the first girl she had walked in on Camille with. The memory itself hurt so much. She wanted to tear her hair out. She wanted to punch something. She wanted to punch Camille. But she did none of the above. With blurry, tear filled eyes and a pain in her chest, she reached out and pressed delete and deleted her from her life, but not her mind or heart.
