Reminder: J.K. Rowling owns Harry Potter, I do not.
Two very different interpretations of one phrase, which one do you think would be worse to suffer through?
Harry Potter had always been a small and scrawny boy. Mostly he blamed that on his cupboard and the fact that Dudley seemed to eat most of the food in the Dursley household. For most of his growing up years, his scar had been his favourite feature. That was before his first ride on the Hogwarts Express.
It had not hit him that day, the fact had taken much longer to sink in. He was scarred for life. It was almost as if Voldemort had personally branded him. And that scar set him as much apart as the Dark Mark had ever set apart the Death Eaters from the rest of the wizarding world.
Over the years he had learned to hate the scar. Everything that it represented hurt him in some way. Even knowing that it was the last proof of his mother's love made it more difficult to bear.
Days after the Voldemort's defeat, he asked one of the healers at St. Mungo's if it would be possible to remove.
The healer stared at the Boy-Who-Lived in disbelief as Harry drifted off into a nightmare filled sleep.
Ginny Weasley was a prat, and her older brothers all delighted in telling her so. They insisted that they knew more than she did about everything. Even if had proven to be able to hex the twins by the time she was seven. In her defence, they should not have left their wands in reach of their younger, much more vengeful sister. The Ministry had never gotten word of the spells that the youngest Weasley hurled at her brothers that day, which happened to be the only reason that Molly Weasley had allowed her daughter to go to Hogwarts at all. The family could not afford a scandal like that, they were already thought of as lesser beings by the other pureblood families.
Oddly enough, Ginny did not care about going to Hogwarts too terribly, that was until Ron went. He had been her closest brother, even if he was a terrible git. How was he supposed to defend himself without her?
Her meeting with Harry Potter had done nothing to make it easier. She knew from the moment she saw him that the boy would be one for adventure. She jealously read the infrequent letters her brothers sent, and knew by what they did not write that she had been correct.
Yes, Ginny Weasley wanted nothing more than to go to Hogwarts after that.
Of course, that was only until she found Percy snogging Penelope Clearwater.
In that moment, she wanted nothing more than to leave Hogwarts forever. Talk about scarred for life...
….Author's Note:
If you've read my other set of one shots then you know I have a fondness for the various meanings of words and phrases. Originally the second story was going to be Snape walking in on Percy and Penelope, but I figured he had seen enough students snogging in his career to not be bothered by it anymore.
About Ginny: I doubt that she developed that explosive temper after her experience in the Chamber.
Reviews are always welcome.
