Since I was experimenting with a Greg/Sophia relationship, I was wondering how it would work long term. They are pretty different, especially when it comes to fundamental things like wardrobe choices! ;)

So I came up with this Greg narrative – reflecting on correcting the mistakes of being overly-presumptuous with each other.

Written out of boredom – and no, I don't claim to own anything.

Our first attempt at gift giving wasn't very successful. I, of course, bought her a dress. She never wears dresses. In fact, she never wears anything that's a different style to her white button-up shirt, black work pants wardrobe.

She never said anything more about it, except that it had taken her a while to find what she'd really likes, so why bother experimenting? And I have the strongest suspicions that the dress ended up in the trash (or at least in the back of her closet).

For my birthday, she gave me this hair stuff that was supposed to strip the hair of artificial color, so I didn't have to bother about redying it. Nice thought. I'd never considered anyone having anything against the hair before…

I faked a smile and threw it away later. Was she kidding? My natural hair-color was the reason I always had to do something with my hair!

I think it was after that that we realized we didn't have to try to change each other – the next birthday she bought me concert tickets, and borrowed the labs ear protectors before she went with me. And for hers, I gave her a pedicure; really brought out my feminine side.

Sophia may be my opposite in the no-fuss attitude, but I think she's coming around to my way of thinking.

But perhaps a little change isn't such a bad thing after all.
