Author's note: I started this when I first finished the anime, and I just finished it now. A few lines here and there are pretty cool, but overall this isn't the strongest of my stuff. I might do one for the manga version later, but let's see how this one goes.
Fly Away
A praying mantis on the hill
Bursts into flames, and now is dead
The villagers all crowd together
To see its soul fly away
Many inhabitants, young and old
From ill or age, they die tonight
A few boys sit upon the hill
And see their souls fly away
A lonely bard in the palace plays
A woman shrieks and cries for help
Falsely accused, his head is lost
An innocent soul flies away
A lady falls from the palace window
Another follows in angry tears
The shamed Empress brings a knife to her breast
Three heartbroken souls fly away
The duke and two princes ride to the west
Assassins three together attack
A stranger appears with a sword of blue light
In three strokes, three souls fly away
They exit the city, but two more attack
One after another, they are taken alive
But one has strength that could not be predicted
Thus two more souls fly away
A tsunami strikes the proud rebel city
Four fighters challenge the war minister's power
With friends at his side, the battle is one
Slowly but surely, four souls fly away
The princes appear, to stop the rebellion
The older, too hasty, risks too many lives
In tears and in pain, the duke's hand slays him
The prince's poor soul flies away
A monster at the palace, six heroes go
But the three evil sisters are stronger than planned
Through poison and fire, they are smothered and burned
But why do souls not fly away?
They heroes, they live, through the war minister's magic
The power is back-fired, one sister in flames
By the frightening monster, the second is crushed
Two defeated souls fly away
The monster revealed; the emperor's soul
With little control, he attacks his own son
Destroyed by the last sister, he dies with regrets
Two royal souls fly away
The final sister increases in power
But the servants find strength in each other to win
Crushed by her own power, the last sister falls
The Kiitsune's soul at last flies away
But the soul does not go where the other souls dwell
She returns to her home land, the mountains in the sky
Enraged by the use and abuse she endured
Unlocked as her soul flew away
With new powers unlocked, man and beast face the fox
Unable to face them, she tries to escape
Her path blocked abruptly, the final blow dealt
The soul is destroyed, never to fly away
The heroes return to the life they once knew
Numb and bewildered by the hardships they took
But they never forgot the adventures they had
Nor did they forget those who flew away
