Disclaimer: To the tune of "I'm Not that Girl"
There is an owner they chose/and heaven knows/I'm not that girl!

Done for the 100 Fanfiction stories challenge. The prompt: honesty.

Galinda's Momsie and Popsicle had once told her that the most important virtue in all of Oz was honesty, and she took this advice to heart.

Starting at age eight, she never told a single lie but was perfectly honest with everybody. Perhaps that was why she was so popular. Her friends were constantly being told how beautiful and lovely they were while her "enemies", the nerdy kids with too many thoughts and too little beauty, listened to the pure honesty of their ugliness.

When the Wizard started his anti-Animal campaign shortly after her fifteenth birthday, Galinda joined the ranks of the Gilikinese supporters. The Wizard was, after all, the most honest man in Oz and everybody else believed it, so it must be true.

At Shiz, her goodness and honesty expanded, ranging from Dr. Dillamound's classroom to the true horribleness of her hideous, green-skinned roommate. Galinda was as popular and well-loved as ever and was even invited to the Ozdust ballroom by Fiyero Tiggular because he so admired her honest assessment of his perfection.

However, something changed at the dance, starting the moment Elphaba walked through the door. Her jaw was set and she looked at Galinda with an expression that both scared her and made her feel an inch tall. Bravely, the green girl shut her eyes, tuned out the world, and began to dance.

Galinda had to be honest with herself. This was all her fault. The girl had done something unbelievably nice for her and here she was, snickering with the rest of Shiz. She looked at her friends whispering and started to think. All of these years of dances, fashion, anti-Animal slogans and boyfriends had not been about honesty, they were all a bunch of lies, draped like a sheet across her life to hide her shallowness and dishonesty.

Now, she had to decide. It would be so easy to go back to her old life before tonight and pretend to tell truths and be consumed with goodness while constantly spinning webs of falsehood. However, she remembered her father's words and saw the pain and trouble she had caused to a girl who did nothing to deserve it. The time had come to end this.

Taking a deep breath and wishing for the courage that her roommate had, she stepped out onto the dance floor to do the most honest thing she had ever done; apologize.

That night, the two girls sat in their dorm. Galinda danced around and makeupified Elphaba, including a giant pink flower and a finishing touch. She smiled as she handed the girl a mirror and told her first lie and first truth in ten years.

"Why, Miss Elphaba, look at you…you're beautiful."

Lying in almost never goodness and goodness is not always lying, but when they meet in the middle and bonded with true honesty, a friendship can be born.

Reviews are so lovely and will result in happy puppies (or kittens) and Fiyero Tiggular (or Harry Potter, Proffesor X, Sherlock Holmes, etc.) using telepathy to send you a thank you message from me. Just listen really closely…..Thank you…..Thank you!

See? Told you!
