This was a short writing assignment we had to do in my Civics class, I shall explain more at the bottom.

Dear Madeline,

Remind me, why did I ever become involved in politics? These last weeks have been nothing but chaos. There are days when I would rather be anywhere but here, preferably back In New York with you and the children. No one can decide between the proposed plans and it is so stuffy within the meeting room it's almost unbearable.

Today you would have sworn that the meeting room had turned into a glorified school house, all of the other delegates acting like rowdy kids. Though by that I'm sure you would just laugh a bit and say that I should fit right in. But really, it's days like today that make me hope James will never pursue a career like mine. I don't think there's much to worry about though, he would probably be more likely to smack these gentlemen upside the head by the way things have been going before he would ever put up with them.

Now that I think about it, maybe I ought to bring him along next time? Or perhaps Amelia would rather accompany me? I'm sure she would have her two cents to give on the Virgina and New Jersey plans. Has her hair grown out much since I've left? I'll never forget the look on your face when she came back from the barn with sheers in one hand and her locks clenched in the other. I swear she had tenacity enough to rival any man.

I'm not sure how many more weeks these negotiations will take. Structuring the backbone of our young nation takes patience, something I'm afraid you have far more of than I.

Missing you all terribly and hopeful that I will be home before you know it.

Sending love.

Ok, so we were going over the Second Continental Congress in our Civics class and we had to assume the role of a delegate there writing home to a loved one. Obviously America would be there to over-see the building of...well...himself, so I sort of twisted it into an AU. Him as a young politician writing home to his wife Madeline (Nyo!Canada) and their two kids James (2P!Canada) and Amelia (Nyo!America). Sort of weird I know, but I thought it all worked to some degree.
