So, countingmoons recently pointed out to me in a review of The Dating Game that Skye has a tree next to her roof and so it would have been completely unnecessary for her to jump through the window in Chapter 3. Well, I couldn't have that be the case, and so I whipped up this quick explanation to put all of our minds at ease. :-) Enjoy!

Three years before The Dating Game…

It had started out as a very good plan. Perfectly foolproof and full of right angles and two-by-fours and 2 1/2 inch long nails.

But that was before the family of squirrels had decided that they weren't in the mood for their nest to be conquered for the sake of a tree house.

No one has ever survived an aerial assault by small rodent and gotten away without any casualties. In their case, they were just glad that Batty wasn't killed when the hammer fell on her and that Skye didn't contract rabies from the squirrel bite.

Well, that last one was still a bit debatable, according to Rosy. It certainly would explain some of the odd behavior…

But when the injury list was added up—Batty's two broken toes and Skye's collection of a clawed face, a bitten ear, bruised ribs, a broken ankle and a broken wrist, plus some very wounded pride—they all decided that the tree house, and what remained of the tree after a rather vicious counter-attack on the squirrels, had to go.

And sitting in her wheelchair (the casts on her wrists made crutches practically impossible) watching the big, old tree fall with a CRASH!, Skye couldn't help but feel a small sense of dread.

This was going to come back to haunt her, someday.

Hopefully it just wouldn't involve more squirrels…

(End.)
