Willow stood at Tara's tombstone and let her mind wander, as her eyes continued to stream warm tears that made her mascara bleed and caused her cheeks to get flushed. She could not believe that the whole summer had gone by already. It seemed like just yesterday Tara had been taken away, though it felt like forever since she had seen her.
"Baby, why'd you leave me?" she whimpered as she fell to the ground in tears. "Why did you have to go? Why couldn't we be happy together?"
A breeze blew past and Willow could have sworn that she heard the trees rustle "my destiny" in response to her questions.
"What will I do without you, baby? I was only strong when I was with you. You are the only person who has ever loved me like that, and you're the only person I loved back."
"No," the wind rustled.
"Okay, now the wind is getting me so friggin' paranoid. What the crap is it doing?"
"It isn't the wind," Willow heard Tara whisper.
"Tara?" she said hoping that this whole experience was just a nightmare.
"It's me," the voice replied.
"Where are you?"
"All around you. I am the wind that you feel, the air you breathe, and the leaves you hear. I am here and I will always be with you, but you have to move on."
"I can't.I love you. Can't I stay your girl forever?"
"You are, Wil.but you have to get on with your life. I was a love in your life, but I am not your destiny."
"Then, who is? How can you not be my destiny?"
"I can't answer either question. I do not know the real answers. All I have been told is all that I have told you. Believe me, if I could tell you, I would."
"No.I don't believe this."
"Believe it, Willow. I wouldn't lie to you, would I?"
"No, but how do I know that this is really you, Tara?"
"Because I'm in you. I am in your blood. I am in your lungs. I am the soul that you cling to at night when you hear something that scares you. I am a part of you."
Willow brushed a tear off her cheek and felt a warm hand touching her own hand. She felt the hand touch her arm and her cheek. She felt lips on her own and felt the kiss, which could only come from Tara, being placed on her lips.
"Willow, promise me that just because I've died that you will always live."
"Tara, I'm not going to make some sappy promise like in Titanic."
"Willow, please.this is for your sake."
"Okay, I promise."
"Do it like you mean it."
"Okay, Tara.I promise that I'll move on with my life."
"Good.I need to go soon. Will you be alright?"
"I can try."
"Good. Willow, I love you very much."
"I love you, too."
"Willow, I can tell you one thing about your destiny love."
"What about her?"
"It isn't a she."
Willow looked shocked as she felt the breeze leave her. She could not tell anyone about this because they would think that she was hallucinating or on drugs, or both. She did not want to keep it to herself, though.
She began to wonder about her destiny; and how anyone could replace Tara. Tara seemed like the only perfect match for her now. Of course, she once felt that way about Oz, but it was not as pure of a love between her and Oz as it was between her and Tara. Tara was her best friend and her lover. How could anyone replace that?
