Because you're a sky, you're a sky full of stars,
Such a heavenly view...
L and Light were exhausted by the time they reached the top of the hill. The sun had already set for the most part, leaving an indigo hue in the sky. L slipped off his shoes immediately, feeling the damp grass between his toes. He sat at the center of the hill in his usual crouch, watching as Light sat next to him before lying down in the grass. L awkwardly copied Light's position, reclining and turning onto his side to face Light. Light smiled and planted a kiss on the tip of L's nose, causing the other man to scrunch his nose instinctively.
"It's so cute when you do that," Light chuckled.
L was too embarrassed to respond, so he just snuggled up against Light's chest, curling into a ball as he did so. Light wrapped his arm around L's side, enjoying the warmth.
A few more clusters of stars were visible now, shining overhead. More seemed to appear by the minute, until the sky was practically black and the stars lit up the sky.
"There's the Big Dipper," Light pointed out.
"I don't see it," L responded.
"Up there. See where I'm pointing? No, over a little bit. Not that far over. Hang on."
Light took L's hand and pointed his finger directly at it. "Do you see it?"
"I think I see it."
Light and L looked at each other lovingly, their hands still connected. Light intertwined his fingers with L's, and they admired the stars in silence.
"Light?" L asked, breaking the silence.
"Hm?"
"Why do you love me?...How do you?"
"What kind of a question is that?" Light responded.
"I just don't understand how you could. I'm not a very appealing person, not in the slightest." L murmured., now slightly embarrassed that he even brought it up.
"Of course you are." Light responded matter-of-factly. He clutched L's face in his hands and kissed him passionately, feeling L's soft lips against his own.
"I love you for who you are and how you make me feel. I feel differently when I'm with you than I do with anyone else. It's the best feeling in the world."
Neither of them spoke, and they listened to the comforting rhythm of each other's breathing. L felt the same feeling Light had described. He never truly experienced love or companionship before meeting Light, and he never wanted to let the feeling go.
L's eyelids felt heavy, and he closed his eyes. Before he drifted off to sleep, he whispered in Light's ear.
"Lawliet."
"What?" Light asked.
"L Lawliet. That's my name." L responded, before falling asleep, still wrapped in Light's embrace.
Light drifted off to sleep, too, and they slept under a blanket of thousands of stars.
