Disclaimer: I do not own 7th heaven or the song Fall to Pieces.
Martin and Ruthie sat on the back porch of the Camden residence. Stars shone brightly against the velvet sky. The December wind rushed through them. Ruthie shivered slightly. In response Martin placed his jacket over her shoulders. No words were spoken, yet Ruthie's eyes silently thanked him. The simple gesture was enough to make her melt, however Ruthie knew that she would have to be strong.
Ruthie turned to look Martin directly in the eyes. He held her stare, deep emerald eyes boring into the chocolate ones that stared back at him. Martin thought she looked beautiful this way. Her straight espresso hair blowing in the cool breeze, eyes half-hooded by long, dark bangs. Ruthie immediately averted her eyes. He knew that this wasn't going to be easy.
I looked away
Then I looked back at you
You tried to
say
The things that you can't undo
"Ruthie," Martin began.
"Don't," came her soft reply.
"I'm not ready to let go yet." She was staring into his eyes once again.
If I had my way Make it through the fall
I'd never get over you
Today's the day
I
pray that we make it through
Make
it through it all
"We should talk." He tried again.
"No, not yet. That's not what I want right now. We will, just not yet. We have the rest of the night."
"Why not now. It's as good a time as any. I want there to be an us…but… Sandy and the baby. I have a responsibility now."
Tears sparkled in her eyes, though she wasn't ready to let them fall, a few made their way down her cheeks. She looked at him as she silently cried, unabashed, but broken.
And I don't wanna
fall to pieces
I just want to sit and stare at you
I
don't want to talk about it
And I don't want a conversation
I
just want to cry in front of you
I don't want to talk about
it
'Cause I'm in love with you
Martin saw the tears and pulled her to him. He wished more than anything that he could make this go away. But he knew that he couldn't. He just held her under the starry night sky as she cried.
You're the only
one, Back under the stars
I'd be with until the end
When I come undone
You bring
me back again
Back into your arms
Finally, Ruthie looked up and met his eyes.
"We can make this work. Just give us a chance Martin. Explain this all to me. I can help you. Let me understand you and how you're feeling. I get the obvious, but let me understand everything else. Please Martin. I want to be with you. No. I need to be with you."
"I don't know Ruthie. I mean, sure, I could tell you how I was feeling, but I don't know if we could work right now as more than friends. Things are just so complicated."
She laid her head onto his broad chest once again.
Wanna know who you are Wanna know how you feel
Wanna know where to start
I wanna
know what this means
Wanna know
what is real
I wanna know everything, everything
Finally Ruthie looked up.
"I love you." She said bravely.
He looked into her eyes and he knew that she had him. For better or for worse.
"I love you, too." He whispered.
She cried once again, but this time they were tears of joy.
And I don't wanna
fall to pieces
I just want to sit and stare at you
I don't want
to talk about it
And I don't want a conversation
I just want to
cry in front of you
I don't want to talk about it
'Cause I'm in
love with you
Martin knew that this new relationship wouldn't be easy, but he also knew that it would work. He and Ruthie would make it work because they were in love.
A/N: Well that's it. Just a short one shot about Martin and Ruthie. My story Broken is not finished however at the moment I am experiencing a writer's block and this helped to clear my head. Hopefully I'll have a new chapter up for Broken soon. Merry Christmas and please give me some feedback. Reviews keep me happy.
