Take one, or let them both die.

"I'm not leaving without the other!"

"Giro, this place is falling apart: take the child and go or we will all die here!"

"I'm not...!"

Without warning, part of the ceiling collapsed. The building was falling apart at a rapid pace and they needed to get out of there now. But he couldn't just leave the other behind- it just didn't seem right, but right now it was slowly becoming the other option.

"Girouette, this is your last warning!" she yelled at him, "Take the boy or they will both die here!"

Unfortunately, he knew she wasn't joking. With a mourning glance, Giro looked at the other child with regret then looked at the other child in his arms.

Take one, or let them both die...

"I'm sorry." he whispered to the girl as he held the boy closer before quickly getting out of the building. They safely made it out and Giro took one last look at the building as it completely collapsed into rubble. The old woman put a gentle hand on Giro's shoulder as she looked down at the tiny child in his hands.

"We just... let her die..." Giro said softly in sorrow as he looked at the child.

"We will see her again." the old woman told Giro carefully. "Remember the old quote; 'Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting. You aren't going to forget her, are you?"

"No..." Giro decided as he started to gently rock the child in his arms, "As long as Vent lives, I will always remember Aile- his twin sister who did not."

Girouette woke up with a start as he come to from his sleep. Vent walked in sucking on a lollipop as he carried in a few boxes from a shipment that had gone through earlier. For a moment, Giro had forgotten that Vent was only ten years old; those boxes were rather heavy, no doubt, yet Vent handled them like they were mere building blocks.

"Please be careful with those." Giro told Vent as the boy set them on the ground. "You don't know what's in there."

Vent gave Giro a funny look, almost like he didn't know he was there, and took the lollipop out of his mouth before smirking.

"Ah look," Vent then said with an exaggerated Australian accent, "The great Girouette beast awakens from its slumber at 3:24 in the evening. Notice how it shows concern for the young apprentice beast after he had handled three deliveries unmanned."

"Please tell me you were nice." Giro groaned rather playfully. Vent nodded as he stuck the lollipop back in his mouth.

"There might be some vendettas later, but it's all good."

This time Giro groaned with annoyance and fear.

Oh yes, he could remember that day well enough. It always made him wonder what would have happened if he had insisted more- if he had found a way to smuggle out the other without the old biddy knowing. Then again, Vent was often more trouble than he was worth. Could Giro be able to handle two of him?

To persuade his thoughts, Vent ended up tripping over a box as he tried to leave the room- effectively making the young boy fly a few inches and send the lollipop soaring out of view.

"Ah look," Girouette then teased using the same accent Vent had used earlier, "The young apprentice beast has fallen in the mess that he had made. Now the great Girouette beast will make him clean it all up!"

Vent groaned- from pain or disdain was left to interpretation. Giro ended up laughing.
