Mitsuki stared out the dirty bus window and pulled down her school uniform skirt for the millionth time. Shestared out the dirty bus window and pulled down her school uniform skirt for the millionth time. Her best friend, Setsuna already knew what she was thinking.
"Oh my God, I know, right? These uniforms suck! Last years weren't as short!" said her loud friend. Mitsuki looked at her and smiled but her white ears stayed down.
"You are going to get in trouble for that ear ring." Mitsuki said. Setsuna had surprised everyone the day before school started with a bright silver hoop in her left fox ear. Body piercings were against school rules, and after going to Lady Catharine's School for Girls since they were 13, the rules were known.
"Oh lighten up! Its hardly noticeable and if any objects, they can kiss my fox ass!" Mistuki's ears finally perked up and she laughed. First time all day. All summer, in fact. Going back to her parents when school let out wasn't fun. And being away from Setsuna didn't help either. Her parents dragged her off to Colorado for a family reunion and she met a cute raccoon-guy and didn't call Mitsuki all summer. But now that school was back in session, she had a lot to look forward to.
Getting to the school was easy enough but finding their rooms weren't. Everything had changed over the summer. Before, they kept the different class groups together by what species they were. Dog-girls were kept together and away from the cat-girls and so on. But this year, everything was intermingled. A freshman cat-girl could end up with a senior mouse-girl. But fate was lucky to Mitsuki and Setsuna because the dog and fox friends ended up together in the same room.
"Oh my god, can you believe it?! This is awesome! This whole year will be great!" Setsuna gripped Mitsuki into a hug. They shared their schedules and realized they had a few classes together, also. "Oh man, this is so great!" Setsuna knew that she would ace those classes because Mitsuki was always a brainer when it comes to school. She's been top of her class since 8th grade. "But why are you taking senior math? You don't have to do that until next year."
Mitsuki was about to answer but out of the corner of her eye, she saw her. Her black hair gleamed in the sunlight filtering through the window. Her blue eyes caught Mitsuki off guard, they were stunning. It was Sensei. Even on the first day, her nose was buried in a book and her ears were twitching. Mistuki's cheeks turned bright red and Setsuna picked up on it.
"Oh!! Is that her?! Oh, she's so pretty! Why don't you go talk to her? She's all alone."
"Are you kidding me? She's reading and why would I go talk to her? She wouldn't be interested in talking to me. We have nothing in common."
"So? Opposites attract. You know that as well as I do. Sexuality doesn't matter either. Don't let that bullshit your parents feed you get under your skin."
Mitsuki knew Setsuna was right, but just the thought of talking with her, being close enough to watch those lips move made Mitsuki's heart flip flop. She took a steadying breath and let it out slowly. When she looked back up, Sensei was gone.
