Author's Notes: Don't really know how I suddenly came up with Indigocest, but it works, doesn't it? Well, enjoy!

Lavender Moon
---
Every night.
Every night, both would climb out of bed at precisely midnight. They would go down two different paths - but still end up at exactly the same spot. And it always took them only three minutes to get to that spot.
"Hi," Noel would say warmly.
Caren would make a soft sound in her throat as a reply.
The two twins would sit on the sand, Caren supporting herself on her elbows and Noel laying on her stomach with her head propped up in her hands. And they would stare at it.
Staring transfixedly at what just might be the most spiritual, beautiful thing to ever exist - the moon.
The porcelain sphere would be settled comfortably in the waves, looking like it was resting with all the humans. Resting, sitting there, so vulnerable - so peaceful. So at ease.
"Gorgeous," Caren would whisper in awe, regardless of the number of times she'd seen it.
"Naturally," Noel would reply intelligently, always feeling the urge to whip out her glasses and textbooks and read pages upon pages of text about the moon. She always ignored the urge and chose not to, knowing she'd only be ruining the experience for her slightly younger sister.
The ocean acted as a motherly figure to it; the waves licked the moon gently, gave the celestial body gentle, nurturing touches - it sincerely loved it, that much was obvious.
They would stay there, watching, until dawn, when they mourned the loss and rejoiced for the pleasures of the sun. Caren and Noel would drag themselves back to the Pearl Piari and lay back into their beds. They'd catch about two hours of sleep and get up once more to shower, brush their teeth, talk to their friends, and do everything else a Mermaid Princess had to do. Their fellow Princesses would notice the foundation-covered bags under their eyes, but would say nothing.
They went to bed about three hours before the other girls did; this meant retiring at seven. Lucia, Hanon, Rina, Coco, and Seira were bothered by this early bedtime, but did not protest; the one time Rina had chosen to, Noel had looked at her with they most painstaking, heart-stinging look that a human could muster - the mermaids were not stupid, they quickly learned not to contradict the twins' decisions; never mind how quirky they were.
And at midnight, it would start all over. So was the spell of the beautiful moon.

Before you yell at me about depriving them of sleep, note that sunrise is usually at about five a.m., so I'm giving them seven hours in total every night. A normal person requires eight, so I'm not depriving them too badly, but it gives reason for the circles under their eyes...well, R&R?
