Warnings: yaoi. Eh, and some angst. You should have suspected that already, though, if you read my stuff. But it's short. So nothing too too horrible.

drabblish liitle something for MoiyaHatake. Thank you for challenging me to write it. Also for a certain Naruto and Sasuke for making me give the pairing a chance. Just because they started the series as genin doesn't mean I have to ignore them. And yes, this is my first time writing them like this, or focusing on ANY of the genin in a fic.

It took forever. Shino motioned and adjusted their positions, then waved them back again. Kiba cracked a joke and everything seemed so happy and inormal/i. Everyone smiled. Shino clicked the shutter, capturing the moment. They broke apart, laughing, smiling, joking still, and it was almost too, too perfect.

All too soon the night ended and they parted ways, singly and in groups. Lee left first, unable to stay long away from Sakura. Shikamaru went next. He was leaving the next day on a diplomatic mission to Suna, and still hadn't packed. Packing ahead of time was far too troublesome. Gave everything time to wrinkle, or else gave you time to add more and more things that just couldn't be forgotten. Kiba wandered away with a wink and a smiling wave, sliding between two busty twins and putting an arm around both of them and stealing kisses.

"Just us, then?"

"Hnnh. Guess so."

"Let's go then. I'd rather be alone with you."

"Tchhh. Dobe."

Naruto took the straightest way home, didn't linger, rushed to open the door and fall to the bed. Warm fingers trailed across the swelling flesh within his pants and he tugged them down. The cool breeze brushed across his chest where his shirt was tangled and bunched. It was raw and rough and quick. And vaguely unsatisfying if he let himself think about it, but he didn't. It was over too soon, the warmth pooling in his belly and spilling onto the warm fingers grasping his length. "Sasuke..." He arched and called his name, stiffening and groaning, then melting and sliding into sleep, a small smile on his face.

It was morning and Naruto woke, sticky and sore, curled around a dark blue pillow. Alone. Tears gathered in his eyes and his smile was tarnished and broken as he remembered the night before, all the nights before. Dreams and wishful thinking and a phantom lover, dead a year gone. He stared at the reflection of a picture in the windowglass, how if you tilted your head just so, the shadows and flashing lights showed the hint of a dark-haired form, pale skin, the ghost of a smile.

The smile of a ghost.
